Character Trait for November
This month’s mindset focus will be on responsibility. Please ask your child throughout the month what responsible choices they made, or what they have learned about responsibility at school.
From Mrs. Serazio-
It's almost Thanksgiving! What a wonderful time for families. Here is a fun activity to do together and put on your table!
Just a reminder...I am still looking for pictures of families showing responsibility for our character trait this month! Please send them to me at jserazio2@livoniapublicschools.org.
One of the focuses for our Social/Emotional (SEL) Curriculum is learning about our feelings. We learn that we all have feelings. Our feelings are shown on our faces! We can show our emotions by smiling when we are happy or frowning when we are sad. For this week, have your families make some feelings turkeys and bring one in for our SEL curriculum board and drop them off in my room. Here are some examples below. Have fun with this one!
The 20 Minute Challenge!
The 20 Minute Challenge!
Mrs. B.Garbutt and Ms. Gordon continue to challenge you to dedicate just 20 minutes of your day to reading at home. This could be reading on your own, listening to someone else read, or taking turns reading with a family member or friend.
Why read for 20 minutes?
There are many academic and social benefits to reading daily.
This week we share benefit #6.
6.)Strengthen perspectives and improve imagination: Reading daily exposes children to a world outside of their own. It can provide them with new perspectives and open their imaginative minds, helping them build a love for reading and learning as well as introduce new interests they may never have been exposed to.
Here is a great resource for finding high interest books for reluctant and/or curious readers: High Interest Books
Let’s keep all of our Roosevelt Tiger students and families reading 20 minutes per day! Stay tuned for benefit #7 in a future Parent Roundup.
PBIS
Thank you to all the families who returned the PBIS commitment sheet included with our pamphlet. Our staff and students are dedicated to being respectful, responsible, and safe as stated in our Positive Behavior Matrix. Students can earn “red tickets” for following the matrix expectations. Every Friday, teachers pull two red tickets, and the students can come to the lobby for a special prize!
Medications and Health Information - Please read!
If your child has a medical condition and/or requires medication at school, please download the forms your child needs for school, based on their health conditions (Life-Threatening Food and/or Insect Allergy, Allergy IHCP, Asthma, Diabetes, Seizure Disorder). New forms must be completed by you and your child’s physician each year (dated after the last day of school of the previous school year). Please ensure that the forms include both your signature and your child’s doctor’s signature. We cannot dispense any medication without these completed forms. Forms can be found on our school website under the parent tab as “Health Forms”.
Medications and forms can be brought to the school office anytime moving forward. Don't delay in sharing medical updates as you get updated information.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Serazio at jserazio2@livoniapublicschools.org.

Art with Ms. Salvia
This week in Art, we continued to talk about Shape as an Element of Art, or an ingredient an artist might use to make an artwork. 2nd-4th graders combined Line, Color, and Shape (which are all elements of art) to create these interesting crystal drawings. We are working on coloring them with markers and will use a paintbrush and some water to make the marker blend.
Kindergarten and 1st grade also talked about Shape as an Element of Art. We used shapes at our table and a little creativity to make our own animals. We arranged geometric shapes on our paper and then traced them to create a picture of an animal of our choice.
Cub Crew Artists continued working on our pumpkins from last week. We had fun drawing with green oil pastel to create the vines growing out of our pumpkins!
See you next week in Art!

PLTW with Mr. Morrow
Hello Scientists and Families,
We had a busy week of building and diving into the design process in PLTW!
Kindergarteners are using their knowledge of reducing, reusing, and recycling to build a toy or game out of materials that might otherwise be thrown away.
First Graders have made their final design for their light and sound device and are ready to build!
Second Graders built their coolers this week using only supplies that they might be able to find around the house, next week we will test them
Third Graders have completed their compound machine and will be using their new knowledge to build a device that can rescue a tiger stuck in the moat at the zoo.
Fourth Graders began designing a prosthetic limb that can help an animal from our story. The animals include a turtle that has no front legs, a cardinal with a damaged wing, an eagle with a damaged beak, and a dolphin with a damaged rear fin.
We are looking forward to another wonderful week next week!
See you then,
Mr. Morrow
LMC with Mr. Pinta
This week our topic in the library was Digital Citizenship. Students in Kindergarten and first grade focused on balancing their time online after listening to Tek: Modern Day Caveboy, who could not part with his technology for family or friends until something happened that changed his mind. They met "Arms," a character who encourages a safe balance of online activity, and worked on a couple of coloring sheets that focused on technology, but also balancing their time. Second through fourth grade students listened to "Webster's Email" where Webster shared a picture without pausing and thinking. This lesson focused on sharing online, when it's safe to share, who to share with, and what types of things to share. Finally they played a game in Interland called Mindful Mountain which poses sharing situations, and tests students ability to make the right choices

Music with Ms. Grammatico
4th graders reviewed the notes B, A, and G on the recorder. Attached you will find where to put the fingers for each note. At home, they should be blowing with very very light air. If there is squeaking it's because they are blowing too hard. Their assignment was to figure out how to play "Hot Cross Buns" on their own and then we will work it out in class next week.
3rd graders learned a new song "A Pumpkin Ran Away." They caught onto the melody very quickly and then we played a game where we passed a ball in a line and the last person rolled the ball through their line's legs. We had a ton of fun!
2nd graders learned a new song called "Tideo" and we did a dance where the whole class walked in a circle and one person walked in the opposite direction. At a certain point in the song, the single person in the middle finds a partner and they spin in a circle together. The partner becomes the next person to walk alone. They also learned a stone passing game called "Obwisana."
Kindergarten and 1st graders learned a new simple song called "Johnny Had One Friend." They also started a unit on "Aiken Drum." Ask them to tell you all about what we created for our Aiken Drums!
