TECHNOLOGY CAMPUS CHRONICLE
May 17th 2024
PRINCIPAL CORNER
Dear OSES families,
This Principal Message is dedicated to our sixth grade students and families. Over 40 students in the 6th grade have attended OSES since Kindergarten, almost 40 students have attended since 1st, and the majority of the remaining for multiple years. Its natural for our teachers and staff to compare 6th grade classes from year to year; this class has set the bar high. Overall the students cared for each other, tried their best academically, and are leaving a lasting impression for the incoming 6th grade group. This group of students will undoubtedly benefit our world in many ways.
Parents, thank you for everything you’ve done while your student was at OSES. During times of celebration, conflicts, school events, and yes, even in the carline, you have supported your student and I hope you will continue to do so in 7th grade. I mean this literally and figuratively; your student will continue to need you in middle school more than ever. Please be there for them.
Lastly, I could end the message here but this must be said. Without question, this has been the most caring, team oriented, and hard working group of sixth grade teachers to date. I fathom at how well they connected with such a diverse group of students. There were so many different personalities, learning levels, social issues, obstacles, and challenges for these students, yet in the end, our teachers were able to meet their needs. Hats off to them.
Principal.
Michael Singleton
We are out of Extra Yearbook! Thank you for understanding!

KINDERGARTEN
Volden
Kindergarten teachers are so proud of their classes who finished their STAR tests this week. We have had some special guests in kindergarten this week, Monarch caterpillars! Students have really enjoy seeing the caterpillars hatch from eggs, grow, and turn into chrysalis! Hopefully they will emerge soon as beautiful monarch butterflies! In Ms. Volden's class we have practiced our researching skills learning about animal habitats by making a Habitat Lap Book. Students also researched their favorite animal they learned about using Epic! Books. They did a great job! This week we are reading the story Flat Stanley and are doing a novel study on what we have read. They love the book so far!
FIRST
DiNuzzo
In First Grade, we finished our STAR Reading and Math tests. We are so happy with how much our students have grown over the year! Thank you to parents and students for doing your part in learning.
Thank you to the High School Band for your outstanding performance; our 1st graders were inspired to move their bodies and ask questions later about the instruments. Special shout out to our sibling brothers Erick Quarterman and Arlen Pujols!
Thank you to the parents and students who bought or made gifts to show love and appreciation toward your teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week! We thank you and appreciate you!
Congratulations to our top three 1st grade runners: 1st Nuah G. 2nd Nathan W. 3rd Chicka M.

SECOND
Coy
Thank you, parents and students, for making teacher appreciation so special. Thank you for the wonderful gifts.
This week we have been busy reviewing to do our best on STAR. Everyone did a great job!
In Science this week, the students took a break from their habitat project to do a STEM challenge on density. The students were asked to make a boat from foil to see how many dice the boat could hold before sinking.
Our class champions were Valentina and Amaya, their boat held 34 dice.
THIRD
Myers
For the past couple weeks, students have been hands-on with STEM projects. They started by building their own cars powered by gravity and raced them, learning about motion and force. Then, they switched gears to study the Titanic. They read real accounts and analyzed different types of texts to understand the tragedy better. They also looked into the science of floating, calculating surface area, and learning about the ship’s design, like its watertight compartments. Through several science labs, they got a closer look at these concepts. The project ended with students writing short biographies of Titanic passengers and sharing these stories at a ‘Titanic tea party’, connecting their STEM skills with history.
FOURTH
Parlewicz
As fourth grade prepares to come to an end, we are celebrating the last days of our ABC countdown! We had a grade level quiet game contest. Only a few students from each class were able to last the whole day! We also celebrated students' summer birthdays who never get a chance to celebrate at school. Some of our favorite days of the countdown so far were no backpack day, dress down pink day, and hour of code day! Students are preparing for 5th grade by reviewing the skills taught this year, and relearning some of the things they struggled with specifically on FAST. We are looking forward to Field Day next week and having our class parties, we worked so hard this year!
FIFTH
Kenney
In fifth grade we are finishing the year with a novel study! We are reading the book “The Egypt Game” by Zilpha Keatly Snyder. We will be learning about Egypt as we read and explore the book! We will be looking at pharaohs and pyramids and discussing how it influences the book we are reading. This book teaches us to not judge a book by its cover and that you are never too old to play pretend.
SPECIALS
SIXTH
Nemcik- Language Arts
In Mr. Nemcik’s ELA class, we are finishing up the year with a short project and reading of “The Phantom Tollbooth” by Norton Juster. This novel is a great way to cap off the year as it explores themes which include: the power of words, the value of curiosity, and the importance of education. In this project, students explored character interactions, the importance of setting, character traits, and meanings of figurative language. We will also watch the film adaptation of this novel and compare the plot of the movie to that of the book.
In science, sixth graders participated in frog dissections this week. Frog dissections help students to better understand the organ systems of a complex organism. After completing the dissection, Sixth grader Alexa Lozada said, “At first it was kind of gross with smell. Then we cut it open and started exploring the organs. We got used to smell and it wasn’t so bad. We learned about how they digest their food and how they hear. It was actually pretty fun, and we learned a lot. I didn’t even know frogs had teeth.
Masuoka P.E.
On Wednesday May 15, when the server storm rolled in, we played "Gong Gi" in a classroom. This traditional Korean game is great for improving hand/eye coordination and motor skills!
Thank you, Ms. Kim, for explaining how to play the game!

Thank you to all of our amazing parents for celebrating our staff last week. Your contributions made our week extra special. This week, we celebrate our PVO (Parent Volunteer Organization).
The amount of time and effort they spend to help our school is unmeasurable.
This week begins the final descent into the end of the school year. With that comes a lot of excitement, activities and celebrations. It is important for students to keep the code of conduct and the mission of our school in mind as we go through the next few weeks.
Please review the expectations with your students and the importance of showing good character and leadership this weekend.
