Principal's Update
Dear Kenwood Families,
It’s good to be back in school together after a well-deserved Spring Break! I hope you had a lovely vacation.
I’m pleased to report that Suzy Martin, English Language Teacher, started working at Kenwood this past Monday. Suzy has 17 years of elementary and EL experience, and we’re so lucky to have her here!
During this last quarter of school we will continue strong literacy, math, science, social studies, PE and arts instruction. Our students are developing excellent skills and making tremendous progress. Let’s work together to make sure students arrive at school and are ready to learn by 9:25 in the morning, get a good night’s sleep, spend time outside, and reduce time on devices. I’d like to gently remind you that cell phones and smart watches aren’t permitted at Kenwood. Some families have requested an exception to the rule to support after-school communication, and I have granted permission after a conversation. With that permission, though, phones and smart watches must stay in students’ backpacks in lockers for the duration of the day. Teachers or I will store phones for students who aren’t able to follow this expectation until you’re able to pick it up from school. Thank you for your support and understanding.
I look forward to seeing you throughout the month as we celebrate poetry, eat pizza together, enjoy the 2nd and 3rd grade music concert, and appreciate school volunteers. Happy Spring!
Warmly,
Heidi Johnson, Principal at Kenwood

Quarter 3 Updates
From Ms. Sue Pehrson, Music Teacher
Notes from the Music Room!
Congratulations to the Kindergarten and 1st grade students for their fantastic performance back in February. It was so much fun to see them singing their little hearts out with lots of smiles coming from the audience! Since our show, we have been playing the soprano ukuleles, singing and dancing.
Our 2nd and 3rd graders are preparing for their concert which is scheduled for Thursday, April 24 at 6:30 PM. We are excited to show you what they have been learning. The third graders are going to show off their recorder skills. We also have lots of fun songs to sing for you!
The 4th and 5th graders did a fantastic job with our musical, “A Kid’s Life”. It was great to see so many develop confidence in acting and singing. All of the students will be performing again on Thursday, May 22 at 6:30 in the gym. Ms. Hunt is also working on some songs for the band to play.
Kenwood students love to sing and play instruments and there is a lot of natural talent. I feel lucky to be their music teacher!
