Academic Awards Night
The annual SMS academic awards will be Wednesday, May 22nd at 6:00 p.m. in the west gym.
The following students will be recognized during this event:
6th grade gold (4.0 GPA, which means all trimester grades are A+ or A for the year)
7th grade gold (4.0 GPA, which means all trimester grades are A+ or A for the year)
8th grade gold (4.0 GPA), silver (3.75-3.99 GPA), and bronze (3.5-3.74 GPA)
Three year gold awards to the four eighth grade students who have maintained all A+ and A grades throughout middle school.
On Saturday I sent ParentSquare messages to the parents of the students who met the above criteria. I also sent Canvas messages to the students who are eligible for the awards that will be presented during the program on May 22nd.
6th and 7th grade silver and bronze medals will be presented at the end-of-the-year assembly from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 23rd. Silver medals will be awarded to students who have earned a 3.75-3.99 GPA this school year. Bronze medals will be awarded to students who have earned a 3.5-3.74 GPA this school year.
Parent Night for Incoming Sixth Graders
If you know parents who will have sixth graders at Scottsburg MS next school year, please remind them of the parent information event on Monday, May 20th. Parents can choose the 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. session or the 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. session to come hear information from administrators, meet the teachers, and tour the building. Incoming sixth grade students are welcome, but not required, to come with their parents.
Scott 2 Summer Nutrition Program
Scott 2 is pleased to offer the Summer Nutrition Program again this year. The meals, which are for children 18 years and younger, will be available at Vienna-Finley Elementary and Scottsburg Middle School. Vienna Finley pick up will be at door #2 on the west side of the building. Scottsburg Middle School pick up will be at door #8 which can be accessed via the bus/activities lot. You will be required to come to the door to pick up the meals.
Each meal will include one lunch for that day and one breakfast for the next morning. Meals can be picked up at either building, but there is a limit of one meal per child per day. There are no adult meals available.
When you arrive to pick up a meal for the first time, you will receive a paper that should be completed and submitted to the pick up spot.
The first day for meal pick up this summer is Tuesday, May 28th.
Pick up time is 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon each Monday through Friday.
We will not be distributing meals on July 4th.
The last day for meal pick up will be Friday, August 2.

Scottsburg Warrior Youth Football Camp
When: May 28-31, 2024
Where: Scottsburg High School
Time: 5/28-5/30 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and 5/31 from 9:00-11:00 a.m.
COST: K-6 $50 per camper
($25 if registered for SCSD2 Future Warrior Football League)
7th/8th Grade - FREE
Payment is due on 5/28.
Participation is not limited to SCSD2 Enrolled Students
Ivy Tech Middle School Summer Opportunity
Ivy Tech is offering a new one-day program for middle school students (IvyInstitute2024) this summer to explore the different types of career options available to them. Class topics include:
- Coding through Lego Robotics
- Careers in the Health Science field in our brand new labs
- Environmental focus through hands-on outdoor experiences
- Learning about entrepreneurship and other business related fields
- Safe Sitter class for students to learn the skills to care for younger children

IN Sheriffs' Association Youth Leadership Camp
The IN Sheriffs' Association announced and will be celebrating their 44th annual IN Sheriffs' Association Youth Leadership Camp will be held in June and July again this year.
The first session will be held June 17-20, 2024, at Pine Creek Camp in Pine Village, Indiana (Warren County) serving the northern part of the state. The second session will be help July 1-3, 2024, serving the southern part of the state at Waycross Episcopal Camp in Morgantown, Indiana (Brown County).
The IN Sheriffs' Association Youth Leadership Camp is a program provided by the IN Sheriffs' Association for boys and girls who are currently in 7th or 8th grade and are interested in learning more about a possible career in law enforcement. The camp provides a very meaningful experience and relationship with other campers from throughout the state and sheriff officers who serve as counselors and instructors.
Any boy or girl currently in 7th or 8th grade interested in attending the camp should contact the Sheriff's Office or an SMS counselor for additional information. Applications are available in the SMS office. The sheriff announced that arrangements can possibly be made to provide the camp registration fee through a local business or civic organization for anyone interested.
Spring Sports Season
Spring sports competitions wrap up this week.
Students should listen to the afternoon announcements for information about changes to practice times and events.
Eventlink will still be the platform that we use to communicate with parents/family members regarding practices and events.

Technology Reminder
As a reminder, students should only use their school-issued iPad and all of their school accounts for tasks that their teachers assign.
Students should not use their iPad or accounts for chatting via Google docs, searching non-education related terms/phrases, or any other activity that isn't directly related to something that a teacher assigned.
Reminders for Walkers
Please be careful when crossing the streets, utilize sidewalks and crosswalks when available, and follow the street crossing signs.
Officer Nicholson has met with all students regarding safety at school and throughout the community.
