December 20-31 Winter Holiday Break
As you enjoy the week with your children, as you perhaps spend some time with your family and friends, take some time to remember what you are thankful for and find time to rest. While this world may be filled with chaos and unrest in so many ways, we are a fortunate community who is blessed with so much.
All my best,
Amy Senethavilay

School Start Times and Tardies
9:00--First bell to move students and open doors
9:05--Clear outside. All doors locked with the exception of the front doors
9:10--Tardy bell and announcements
If your child is not in the classroom at the final 9:10 bell, they are tardy. Please be sure to plan accordingly to get students here timely. Also, if you drop students after 9:05 and the playground is clear, please send your child through the main front doors to the office. This will allow us to capture attendance for any late students so you do not inadvertently receive a call regarding your child being absent after dropping them off.
CROSSWALK AT BLACK CAT AND GONDOLA UPADTE
Please note that the area WEST of Black Cat is a bus zone. You are highly encouraged to utilize the bus rather than allowing your child(ren) to walk or ride to school.
Vacations and Impact on Instruction and Assessments
Missing school does not mean your child is ONLY missing paperwork. Up to 70% of the classroom activities consist of class participation, projects, discussion, and practice that cannot be duplicated. In all absentee cases, class assignments must be completed within the number of days equal to the number of days of absence to receive credit.
If your family is planning an extended vacation, you must notify the front office for attendance purposed and complete the form on page 34 of the Elementary Student Handbook to submit to Mrs. Senethavilay. The Notification of Absence form states:
I understand that it is my responsibility to decide for assignments with the teacher prior to or before returning from the absence. However, all written work assigned during this absence will be gathered during the absence and provided to the student upon his/her return to school. Work must be returned within the same number of days as the absence. I understand that it will not be the responsibility of the teacher that these assignments are done or to re-teach lessons. I understand that absence from school will affect my child’s progress.
Please note that students DO NOT have access to remote learning during these vacation days.
If you are planning a trip soon, please be aware that most classes will be giving district benchmark assessments in December, March, and May, as well as the state assessments in April. These assessments have very limited windows for participation. Please think about your vacations and the timing of the instruction and assessments.
COVID VACCINE QUESTION
Both Amy Senethavilay and Carrie Allumbaugh have received several calls and emails regarding parents requesting that we not immunize their student for COVID. Please note, PVE and West Ada do not administer immunizations. This is a medical decision that requires your consent. At this time we also have NO plans to set up an on-site clinic.
The decision to immunize is yours. You get to make those medical decisions for your child, so please rest assured that this will NOT be happening at PVE.
If you have further questions, please contact Amy or Carrie. We are happy to answer your questions!

NIGHT OF GIVING
Please join us for a night to come together to give back to our community. Your family will be able to make holiday cards for our military, decorations for a local senior home, make blankets for the animal shelter and more! We will even have a visit from Santa!!! He will be here for families to take photos and have some cookies and hot cocoa! There is no cost to participate but there will be optional opportunities to donate items. More details to come, but save the date for our first Pleasant View Elementary Night of Giving!

IF YOUR CHILD IS ABSENT...
IF YOUR CHILD IS ABSENT...
Please be sure to call into the office or email Jenene Hill at hill.jenene@westada.org if your child is out absent.
If your child has an appointment, please be sure to get a verification form from the provider to allow the school to change the coding for attendance. If your child has a standing appointment weekly/monthly, you can get the letter from the provider for the length of time to share with the office to allow for proper coding.
*Per district policy, an unverified absence will convert to truancy unless verbal communication is received from a parent/guardian within 48 hours (counts against attendance standard).
Thank you for helping us maintain accuracy and account for all students.
