Admin's Anecdotes
Things are in full swing here at VRMS! After completing our first full week here we are off an running with some great rigorous instruction and bright and engaged students soaking it all up. We are so excited for the 24-25 school year!
I have a challenge for ALL of you this weekend, sit down with your students or parents and look over the WIN RTI scheduler sessions that your students are signed up for. More information on that below!
Have an amazing weekend,
As always, Fly Herons Fly!
Buy your VRMS Swag Here! Open until September 15th at Midnight!
VRMS Attends!
Attendance matters! In order to provide the best education we can, we must have all of our students attending at a high rate. With them here, we strongly believe we can prepare them for success NOW and for the future. Our attendance goal is that 95% of students will attend at a 90% or higher rate. Each newsletter, we will be sharing the data for our attendance rates. Take this as a challenge to encourage your student to get to school!
7th grade: 22.5% of students missed one school day or more, 77.5% were here 100% of the time
8th grade: 23% of students missed one school day or more, 77% were here 100% of the time.
Average for the VRMSS : 77.25% of students attended at a rate of 90% or higher during 8/28 - 9/11
WIN to Begin Next Tuesday- RTI Scheduler!
WIN (What I need) is our Intervention and Enrichment time that is on our schedule T-F at the end of the day.
WIN is a two pronged approach with the first driver being teachers identifying through our PLC data process, students that need specific supports, interventions or extensions. The second driver is our students, we will be teaching and reinforcing agency in them to take control of what they want and need to spend more time working on within their schedule.
A CHALLENGE TO YOU- Have your students show you their RTI scheduler calendar and how they signed up for sessions! This is a WEEKLY opportunity, each weekend you can have conversations with your students about what content or classes they should be attending for their WIN sessions in the following week.
What you MUST know:
1. Students will be able to sign up for sessions each week from Friday at 2pm until the following Tuesday at 6am. After that, they will be pushed into sessions by administration. Students can change their selections up until that 6am time on Tuesday mornings.
2. There are OPEN and CLOSED sessions. Open means that students can enroll themselves if they need or want to attend specific sessions. Closed sessions mean that teachers have identified and selected students to attend specific sessions.
3. Students access RTI scheduler through either their Clever account, or www.rtischeduler.com and they log in with their district Google account.
Resources linked below:
1. The first is the powerpoint presentation that students got today that really details out all information on WIN and how to sign up for sessions.
2. This is a Youtube video on the how to actually sign up for sessions from a student view.
Phone/AirPod and Personal Technology Reminders
Just a reminder, we expect that all students have their personal devices stored AWAY and in their backpacks from 7:55 until 2:30 each day. Please help us in reinforcing the message that our students should be engaged with their teachers and peers here at school. Specific information on our policy can be found in our Student Handbook on page 18.
Signs of Suicide Lesson upcoming- September 24th
Signs of Suicide Lesson—We all understand that this is a really sensitive topic, but our priority is and always will be the health and safety of our students. The district has adopted a tool called Signs of Suicide, a presentation that will be delivered to our current 8th-grade students. If you’d like more information on the curriculum, you can see it in the fliers linked below or at www.sossignsofsuicide.org/parent.
This presentation will be delivered on Tuesday, September 24th.
If you want to opt your student out of this presentation, please email one of our counselors, Tatsuya Kee, at tatsuya.kee@ridgefieldsd.org or Donna Allen at donna.allen@ridgefieldsd.org
ASB Card/ Sports Fees
Now that teams have been formed, our Athletic Secretary is busy getting sports fees and ASB Cards added to their inTouch accounts. Thank you for your patience during this busy time. If your student is not participating in sports but you would like to purchase an ASB card online for them, please call the front office.
ASB (Associated Student Body) cards allow students to not only participate in sports, but also allows them to participate in clubs. The ASB card also allows students to attend all regular season home games, here at View Ridge and at the high school. The fee is only paid once per year, not per sport or club.
Bus Note Reminders
We are always excited when our students are making plans to hang out with friends after school, however we must ensure that we are sticking to timelines to meet safety rules that we have set in place.
All bus notes MUST be turned in by 1:30 PM at the latest. Preferably first thing in the morning or at the student's lunch time.
Bus notes can be taken to the attendance window. More details can be found on page 10 of our student handbook.
Binder and Planners!
We are so proud of and impressed with our students ability to adapt to change and jump right in to our new organization methods! Just a reminder that it is really important for our students to have their planners and binders ready and available daily. Every morning, first period teachers are doing checks to ensure students have their materials to be ready to attack the day and be prepared for success each day.
This is a GREAT conversation point with your students, please have them open their planners and SHOW you what they are covering in class and when assignments are due and when assessments are upcoming!
Great News for VRMS! Our Therapy Dog, Harley the Heron to begin soon!
Dear Heron Family Members and Community,
We are so fortunate to have an amazing opportunity to welcome a new "staff member" to View Ridge Middle School. Please see the attached letter regarding our new Therapy Dog, Harley the Heron! We are planning on introducing her slowly to her new work home beginning the week of September 16th. In the attached letter as well as the post here, there are opportunities for you to opt your student OUT of having any 1-1 contact with Harley, if you believe that is best for your student. The form (either digital on Parent Square or the emailed version) will need to be returned no later than Friday, September 13th. You ONLY have to fill either of these forms out if you are choosing NOT to have your student have interaction with Harley.
The research is astounding and we are all very excited for the positive impacts that we believe this new staff member will bring to our students and our school community. Please see the attached letter for more details!
Everyone belongs at VRMS
"How we treat each other matters."
This is something you will all hear at VRMS, if you remember nothing else from your time here remember that quote above. Relationships matter and although we ALL come from different walks of life, have different passions, interests, beliefs, hopes and dreams collectively working together is what makes this community great. We value inclusion and have a commitment to growing each person in their interests and passions to be prepared for the next steps in life. View Ridge Middle School is a place where we can all be ourselves while creating a collective community together focusing on personal growth, academic excellence and achievement.
