CES Weekly Communicator
Issue #7: September 20, 2024
Principal Corner
Happy Friday, Chapelfield families.
It was a great week to say HELLO to all of the students and families at Chapelfield every morning! A huge shout out to Krysten Jasin, our school counselor, and Kim Keller, our K-2 intervention specialist. They both worked hard to ensure every student felt part of our Lion Pride. Kristen Muenster, our PTO President, was also able to bring some pretty cool visitors like Brutus! We ended our week with an assembly that featured a pretty cool basketball player from our community who showed us some cool tricks. He talked about the importance of saying hello to all people in our community! The week doesn't stop here. Make sure to always encourage your child to say hello to fellow Chapelfield students! Have them check in on one another. A simple hello can go a long way and BRIGHTEN a person's day!
We will see you on Tuesday, September 24. We have professional development on Monday! During the long weekend, fill out your child's Emergency Medical Authorization form. They are due on September 30th!
Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Nikki Miller

Library update from Mrs. Long
We have had a great start to the year in the library! All classes started the year by discussing book care and how to be responsible for library books. We focused on:
Have a place to keep your book at home that is safe, such as in your backpack or on a designated bookshelf
Do not put water bottle inside your backpack with your library book
Do not write or draw in library books
All students have been checking out books since the second week of school. Kindergarten students check out one book at a time, with a maximum of 2 books checked out. Students in grades 1 - 5 can have up to three books checked out. Thank you for supporting your student with reading at home each day. I can see how excited they are to read books!
During our lessons, students in grades K - 2 are now focusing on the books that have been nominated for the Buckeye Children’s Book Award. These books are nominated and voted on by kids, and only kids. We are reading and discussing all 5 nominated books and then the students will each get to vote for their favorite. Students in grades 3 - 5 can also participate, but will need to read the books independently since the 3rd - 5th grade books are chapter books.
BOOK FAIR IS COMING OCTOBER 7 - 11!!!
The students are so excited that the book fair will be at Chapelfield in just a couple of weeks! They are bringing home a letter and flyer this week or next week that has a lot of important information about the book fair and a sampling of some of the books that will be available at the fair. You can also shop the online fair at efairs.literati.com to purchase gift certificates to be used at the book fair, or purchase books that will be delivered after the book fair. Volunteers are necessary to help our book fair be successful! You can use the Book Fair Volunteer Sign-Up to choose a day and time. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at longj@gjps.org.
Volunteers are also needed throughout the year to help reshelve books in the library every week, or even for special projects. Please email me at longj@gjps.org if you are interested!
Happy Reading!!
