How Do I Know How My Student Is Doing?
You can check your student’s progress by going into Allie after the last school day of the month. There you will find individual class progress and overall progress. Overall progress is based on the percentage of satisfactory class progress a student has. Satisfactory in half or more of your classes? Then overall progress will be satisfactory (but you should still connect with teachers if you have any unsatisfactory class progress).
Don’t forget: teachers at SVEC enter progress for every single class for every single student every single month!
If your student has overall unsatisfactory progress for any month, we will contact you to set up an Intervention Plan Meeting. We are required to have this meeting within five days - so give us a call back right away when we reach out! The Intervention Plan Meeting is a chance for us to sit down and figure out how to help. We want to do whatever we can to help students and parents be successful!
iReady Testing
SBAC / STATE TESTING Scores Coming Soon!
SBAC testing this school year will take place on May 8-11th, 2023 and we hope you will participate. More information will be available in upcoming newsletters.
Safety Drill for September
Our safety drill for September is a table top drill that will take place in classrooms on Monday, September 26th and will give students an overview of the types of safety drills we will be doing at SVEC during the school year. Teachers will either go over the drills through conversation based learning or they will show one of the videos made by Monroe School District for this purpose and follow the video with discussion.
If you would like to see these videos or view them with your students the links are here. One video was made for elementary students and one is for secondary students. Here is a link to the elementary video: https://monroewa.finalsite.com/uploaded/Safety_Security/Safety_with_officer_Lether_Final_Edit_2.mp4?1644003806554

GET INVOLVED
FAMILY COMMITTEES
Graduation Committee: This is traditionally put on by the staff and parents of Juniors so the Senior parents can just enjoy the Graduation.
Makers Space: Do you know how to use a Cricut machine? Are you a creative or crafty person? This might be the committee for you. Nona Goodwin is looking for people who can train on the machines and stay in Room 7 for a couple of hours each week to help families use the Makers Space.
Food Share: Are you a volunteer with Evergreen Food Rescue or another organization that does food gleaning and sharing? If you are interested in partnering with us and organizing food shares at SVEC, then this would be the committee for that.
Tweens/Kids Area Committee: Create and keep organized, and plan activities for an area in the Gathering Room that is welcoming for tweens and elementary students.
Planning to Volunteer this Year?
It's not necessary if you are here on campus as a "'parent" to your child(ren), but if you are taking on a role to supervise other students, it is required.

Fundraising at SVEC
Interested in helping out by offering a fundraiser for our school?
If you are thinking about doing a fundraiser, please check with Jamie in the main office or call 360.804.2700. We are keeping a master list of all ASB and PTA fundraising so we can keep track of all the amazing things we are doing to support our school, and make sure we don’t overlap with any of our activities. We already have a great list of activities and dances being planned for this year. For more information, check in with us in the office!

High School Athletic Events
Monroe High School is looking forward to having you attend our athletic events this year and supporting our Bearcats!
Please remember the following policies:
● All middle school and elementary aged students must be accompanied by an
adult when attending Monroe High School athletic events. Students will not be
able to purchase a ticket or be allowed into the athletic event without an adult
present the entire game.
● Students will be required to be sitting in the stands for the duration of the athletic
event.
● Sports balls and/or backpacks are not allowed at our athletic events so please
leave those at home.
● Be respectful towards our game staff and our facilities.
Shop Local
The Monroe School District has a new partnership to help support purchases of books for our schools. If you shop at Grocery Outlet, you can stop at the PARENT MENTOR TABLE, located in the Library/Resource Room and pick up a shopper’s card.
Show your card at check-out and Grocery Outlet will donate 5% of that purchase to the Monroe School District.
Clean up Clean up, Everybody Everywhere!
As Barney the Dinosaur used to say, “Clean up clean up, everybody everywhere, clean up clean up, everybody do your share!”
Our custodians are here to do the major cleaning each day, but we need your help to keep Sky Valley beautiful! Please pick up after yourself, and if you are here at the end of the day, please help us stack chairs in our common spaces. This helps make it easier for our custodians to get all of the floors done in all of the spaces.
