SCHOOL SAFETY IS A SHARED RESPONSIBILITY
SGS School Safety Procedure Parent Meeting
School safety is a shared responsibility. SGS will begin a new safety procedure starting 2nd nine weeks. Beginning Monday, Oct. 14th, 2024 we will adjust our procedures of how students enter and exit the building before and after school. Our district has wisely invested in new Access Control units that provide more security for the students in our district. Keeping your students safe during school hours, while limiting outside access inside our building is a district goal. We will discuss the new procedures during the meeting on October 8th @ 6:00pm. If you are unable to attend the meeting you be able to discuss the plan with your student's teacher and will receive a flyer at Parent Teacher Conferences that helps explain the new entry and exit procedure. You are always welcome to come and visit with me if you have any questions.

SGS School Arts Competition Winners at Kansas State Fair
Adelynn with a 1st place Blue Ribbon for her Art Work!
A 2nd place award for Adeline's artwork!
Tucker brought home a 1st place Blue Ribbon for his artwork!!
1st Graders traveled to the Kansas State Fair
First graders traveled to Hutchinson on September 12th to attend the Kansas State Fair. Students spent the day exploring the fair with parent volunteers. Reported favorites included: farm machinery, watching cows being milked, animal barns, animal birthing center, free ice cream, entomology and other 4-H projects. We had a great day!
This trip would not be possible without the support of the following: Bearcub Backers (they fund our field trips), amazing parent volunteers, our phenomenal kitchen staff (packing lunches for 40+ people is a huge job), and our transportation department for getting us there and back safely and on time. We are grateful to be able to provide this fun opportunity for our kids!
Pre-K-3rd Grade to attend Wichita Children's Theatre Oct 7th
Pre-K through 3rd Grade get ready on October 7th for a musical experience, ripped from the pages of Mo Willems' beloved, award-winning, best-selling children's books, Elephant & Piggie! An elephant named Gerald and a pig named Piggie are the "bestus" (a word Gerald and Piggie made up that means "very best friends") friends, but Gerald worries that something could go wrong that would end their friendship. Piggie is not worried at all. She's even happier and more excited than usual. That's because she and Gerald are invited to a party hosted by the Squirrelles, singing squirrels who love to have a good time. And so, begins a day when anything is possible.
FACULTY AND STAFF SPOTLIGHT
OUR AMAZING KITCHEN STAFF
These three ladies, Liz Welty, Loranne McNutt and Kristen Randolph have been cooking up some delicious meals for us the past 6 weeks. They went above and beyond to make each student a sack lunch so our Cub Groups could eat lunch together across the SGS campus. They also wanted to remind parents... you will be responsible to purchase a milk if you do not eat a hot lunch. Those who bring their lunch no matter their lunch status must be charged a milk fee according to the Federal Lunch Program Guidelines.

Mona Mason, Paraprofessional
On September 24th students and faculty at SGS celebrated International Dot Day which celebrates creativity around the world! Since its inception over 30 million people from over 200 countries have participated in Dot Day! This year student's explored marble printmaking using shaving cream and liquid watercolors to create a 12 foot tall collaborative Dot Tree!
Sterling Grade School recently celebrated Dot Day based on a book by one of our favorite authors Peter H. Reynolds. Students and staff created dots that will be attached to a giant dot tree. Watch for the finished masterpiece in the November newsletter.
