November 2023
Fun Times at GJH!
Students and staff dressed in costume on October 31st, and some of our students who had never seen snow before got to enjoy it for the first time also!
It's That Time of the Year . . .
Students in Carousel 1 will have one of the following classes: Basic Computer Applications, Art, or Preparing for College and Careers.
Students in Carousel 2 will be in one of these classes: Spanish, French or Physical Education.
No other classes will change at this time. If you have questions about your child's schedule for second trimester, please contact their grade level counselor.
Attention 8th Grade Parents!
Preparing to transition our 8th grade students to Goshen Junior High School began November 2. The GHS school counselors were here to share an informational powerpoint with all 8th grade students during the Homeroom period. They will return again in January to begin the formal process of high school course selection.
To view the transition timeline, please see the GHS Transition Timeline Activities links below. Be sure to check back for updates.
After-School Events
Staff members running these events have other responsibilities and families waiting at home for them, and we appreciate your help with this. Students who are consistently picked up late from events may be asked not to attend these events anymore.
Attendance Matters!
Goshen Community Schools has approved attendance as a District Wide Goal for this year. The goal is for GCS students to attend 94% of the school year, which is 169 days present at school. That equates to a student missing 10 or fewer days of school (excused and unexcused total).
Click below to take a quiz and learn more about how we are doing with this goal. Talk with your child about how s/he is doing compared to the data shown in the quiz.
Please contact your child's school counselor or administrator to let us know how we can help your child improve school attendance!

Staff Spotlight: Mrs. Izak
GJH welcomes Mrs. Izak to our office staff as our new registrar and secretary!
Mrs. Izak grew up in Middlebury and LaGrange and graduated from Lakeland High School. She is married with one child and one dog. Mrs. Izak is the oldest of twelve children! She has four nephews and two nieces with two more on the way.
In her spare time, Mrs. Izak enjoys crafting and reading. She spends most of her free time playing with her son. She also enjoys traveling and has a goal to try to visit all 50 states with her son by the time he graduates from high school.
Mrs. Izak says she is glad to have the opportunity to help out more in our community. Since she just moved to Goshen in 2021, she is excited to meet new people and start a career that will allow her to be more active in her son's education.
Regality, Inc.
REGALITY, Inc. – “That every girl should know her incredible worth.”
Mrs. DaVonne Kramer, founder of Regality, Inc., visited GJHS during the lunch period on October 6 to talk with students interested in learning more about her program. Through informal conversation, Mrs. Kramer spoke with girls about leadership, strength, dreams, confidence, and more. Some of our students spun the topic wheel and received crown pins to remind them of their value.

Regality programming is designed to provide leadership development, career exploration opportunities, mentoring, and business and social etiquette training. The aim is to help young women pursue their dreams, build their self-esteem and confidence, and realize their potential. More about this programming can be found on Facebook and Instagram.
Mental Health Support from Oaklawn
Heading into the holidays, it can be a time of stress as well as excitement. Many individuals and families have concerns that pop up during the winter and school break. This could include a depressed mood, anxiety about finances or dealing with family members, or it could be simply not knowing what to do for child care while school is out. Goshen Community Schools has a little extra help from our community partners. If you have any concerns about your child's or family members’ mental health, feel free to contact the school counselor or social worker in order to discuss a referral to our contracted Mental Health Liaison. Each school has free access to a trained mental health professional, contracted through Oaklawn, in order to help address your concerns and help connect students and families to services that will address their needs.
According to Mental Health America 15% of Indiana youth suffer from depression and 12% of youth with depression did not receive any treatment. Indiana Youth Institute released their data this year stating that 46.7% of middle and high school students reported feeling sad or hopeless almost every day for up to as long as 2 weeks in a row and that 27.7% of Indiana students reported seriously considering attempting suicide. If you are concerned about your child's mental health, the Oaklawn Mental Health Liaison can help you get them the support they need.
End of Year Reward Trips
Students must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for these trips. All students were given a fresh start after hearing about the criteria. For 7th graders, the "count" starts on Monday, September 25. For 8th graders, the "count" starts on Monday, October 2nd. Talk with your child about monitoring his/her attendance and behavior to meet this goal!
- Six or fewer absences (excused and unexcused absences count)
- Thirty or fewer tardies to class
- One or less referral (excluding major referrals)
Administrators will make the final decision about eligibility for any exceptional cases.
Goshen Public Library Programs
Dress Code
Our goal is to help students understand and evaluate appropriate settings for formal vs. informal attire, which is a skill they will use in the world beyond school. Students will see this addressed starting on the first day of school.
We appreciate parents working with us on this. If you have questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact an administrator.
