USD 231 Board Briefs (June 2024)

Jason Radel, GEHS Athletic Director, and Mike Simpson, GEHS Activities Director, shared highlights from a successful spring season, including state qualifiers and champions, among others!

USD 231 is proud of our partnerships with many stakeholders (students, parents, employees, churches, local vendors, etc.). Often, due to these partnerships, our students and employees are the recipients of generous donations.

Dr. Dan Pollitt, Coordinator of Social-Emotional Learning, and Shellie Guin, Attorney from Guin Mundorf, presented information related to student behavior this school year and how consequences for students with disabilities may be different from their general education peers.

Melissa McIntire, Director of Student Support, and Tracy Foster from Screen Sanity, provided insight related to technology having the power to uplift and improve our humanity; however, it is critical that we create new cultural norms of digital health if we want our students to flourish. The mission of Screen Sanity is to create a world where students are captivated by life - not screens.

Mark DeWitt, Director of Operations, and Ian Kilpatrick, DLR Design Lead, shared an update related to the Bond planning process. Data has been collected related to capacity and building conditions. Committees have been developed including members of the Board of Education, leadership team, certified and classified employees, students, parents and community members.

The Board of Education discussed all applications received for the board vacancy district 1, position 1.

After a brief discussion, the Board voted to interview Mr. Patrick Ross and Mrs. Julie Aldridge during the June 5, 2024 "special" board meeting.

Dr. Ben Boothe, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, provided a brief update related to the proposed cell phone policy and related procedures. The Board of Education voted to adopt the procedures.

Karla Reed, Director of Professional Development and Mentoring, provided an overview of the results of the PLC+ survey. The survey was provided to certified employees to gather feedback related to their experiences during early release.
