It is hard to believe it is already February. We have finished our winter testing window and we are using the data to continue to support all students in learning the grade level content and individual student needs.

We have been working hard at Ottawa on our behavior expectations and following the Full Value Agreement. Ask you child at home about the Full Value Agreement and how they earn TEAM tickets. They all get very excited to hear their name on the news when they received a TEAM ticket from a staff member. This month we incorporated Ottawa TEAM stickers. As we continue to build on this, students will have the opportunity to earn brag tags. We love celebrating students and their successes!

This month we are celebrating Black History Month, Valentine's Day, National Random Act of Kindness day and much more. Keep an eye out for your child's work in their Thursday folders. Along with other school related fliers of things happening this month.

Every day we remind students of the proper winter gear that they need to bring to school for outdoor recess. The temps are cold and it is important to make sure that your child brings boots, snow pants, gloves, a hat, and a jacket.

Last month 3rd grade students were busy learning about writing persuasive essays in ELA and about Native American Michigan tribes in social studies. Students wrote essays to persuade Mrs. Schreiber about changes to make in the classroom and at school. Student wrote about class pets, new playground equipment options, an extended lunch lounge for students, and so much more. In social studies students worked in groups and learned about different Native American tribes. Once they completed their research they presented their tribe to the class. When students learned about all of the tribes the compared similarities and differences between the tribes.

During the month of January, we participated in Coins for Kids. The students did an amazing job bringing in coins for a fun competition for a great cause. Classes competed by bringing in coins. All pennies stayed in classroom buckets, but if you brought in silver coins you placed these in other classroom buckets. After all of the buckets were collected we collected over $1,000. What an fun and amazing way to give back. Watching the students excitement to raising money for a great cause and a school wide challenge was great!

Please remember to use the crosswalk when picking your child up. The crosswalk is located across from the main entrance. For the safety of our students and families, please use the designated cross walk.

Although we had to cancel out January meeting, we continued on as planned and the Winter Carnival was a huge success. A special thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make this event happen. We look forward to our next meeting will be at 3:30PM on February 16th.
