Elm Hill School ~ June 2024
Principal's Office
Happy Last Day of School!
We have had a fantastic year full of fun and learning. I am so proud of all of our students and staff. We have experienced so much improvement this school year in many areas. This past month, our students finished up our end of the year learning and assessments, and have been engaged in several enrichment activities. Our students went on various field trips, including the Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory, the Springfield Town Library, and the Edgar May Recreation Center. We also had our first ever Bridging Ceremony for our second graders. Last week, we held our annual Field Day. The Kona Ice Truck came for a visit, and the students had a blast playing all of the games.
Finally, I want to thank the Springfield School Community. I have enjoyed my time here immensely. The faculty and staff at Elm Hill School are some of the most dedicated and hard-working individuals that I have ever met. Their care for the students here at Elm Hill School is extraordinary, and I feel honored to have had the chance to work with them all. I am also grateful that I got the chance to get to know all of the students here. I have no doubt that they will continue to grow and thrive. Thank you for welcoming me and for being a part of this amazing team that works together to support the children of Springfield. I will miss you all.

Speech
Dear Families,
I wanted to thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me this year. I have learned so much from them and they always bring something special into my day. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know you, their families, as well. As we come to the end of this school year I wanted to reach out and let you know that I will not be returning to the speech language position at Elm Hill in the fall. I will definitely miss these students and the staff at Elm Hill and wish you all the best in the years ahead. As a community member in Springfield and a Springfield parent, I hope our paths will continue to cross as we support your children and mine through their school journey.
Many thanks,
Amy
McLoughlin Math Minutes
Wow! Where has this year gone? Here we are in June. We have worked so hard on our counting skills this year. Kindergarteners, really worked on counting to 100, and being able to identify, write, and show numbers to 20. First graders worked on counting to 120 and being able to understand place value with two digit numbers. This means explaining that the number 45 has 4 groups of ten and 5 ones. We worked on one more and one less, ten more and ten less, and lots of comparing numbers, telling which is the greatest and which is the least. Second graders worked on 2-digit number place value and then moved into 3-digit place value. We worked on answering questions like, what digits make up___ number? What is the value of ___ digit in a number? We wrote numbers in standard form, quick picture form, expanded form and wrote how many hundred, tens and ones were in numbers. Each grade worked on word problems, too.
Everyone worked so hard this year. I am so impressed with their growth. Keep counting and thinking about numbers this summer. See you in the fall! Wishing all the second graders a wonderful transition to 3rd grade.
All the best.

Art News
Our Elm Hill artists utilized their creative problem solving skills and imaginations in order to create cardboard sculptures. Students had the opportunity to work with cardboard, popsicle sticks, tape (lots of tape!), yarn, glue, feathers, ribbon, string, hole punchers, scrap papers, pipe cleaners, markers, and scissors. In addition, they were able to use brass fasteners in order to make movable parts. The students had lots of fun making their cardboard creations. Thank you for the cardboard donations! I hope everyone has a wonderful summer full of exploring, playing and creating. :)
Health Office
THANK YOU!
A big heartfelt “thank you!” to all parents/guardians, teachers, and staff for all of your continued support this year. It has been wonderful getting to know many of the Elm Hill students who have visited for their health care needs. Wishing everyone a relaxing, safe, and healthy summer! 🌞🩴🏊
Medication Pick-Up: Please remember to pick up your student ‘s scheduled/emergency medications from the Health Office by Tuesday, June 11 (student’s last day of school). Remember that second grade student’s medications need to be brought to the Union St. School Health Office in the fall. Thank you for your cooperation!
With Kind Regards,
