Prayer of the Archdiocese of San Francisco to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
Heeding your call, we entrust ourselves, our families, and our Archdiocese to the care and protection of your Immaculate Heart. As we prepare ourselves, through humble expressions of devotion, for the Consecration of our Archdiocese to your Immaculate Heart, inspire in us the longing to know, love, and follow your beloved son Jesus Christ.
We ask that you help us imitate your spirit of generosity in doing God's will and your example of serving others selflessly, so that, having found God's abundant grace here on earth, we may one day led to the everlasting joys of Heaven. Amen.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Consecration of the Cathedral:
This Saturday, October 7th there is the Consecration of the Archdiocese of San Francisco to the Immaculate Heart of Mary of St. Mary's Cathedral.
Mission Mass at the Cathedral:
The Childhood Mission Society is holding its first Mission Mass at the Cathedral tomorrow at 10am at the cathedral in San Francisco. Our student council will represent our school community at this Mass.
Festival 2017:
It is very clear by now that we are in festival mode at the parish. I would encourage everyone to join in with the fun over the weekend. As part of your family commitment to the school please, ensure you fulfill your assigned duties.
I wish to thank those parents who have been involved with the planning of the parish festival.
Shipment of Items to Guatemala:
Yesterday, we shipped three 30"X30"x30" boxes to Guatemala. There was such a great outpouring of support this year. Many thanks to everyone who supported this wonderful cause, both financially and with item contributions.
Support for Appeals:
Last Friday we had our Mexico City and surrounding cities fundraiser. I am pleased to inform you that through your generosity that we raised $1000 towards the assistance for the families in Mexico City. The money was sent through Catholic Relief Services in Mexico City.
Along with the $800 for Hurricane Harvey and $750 for shipping costs to Guatemala the school community has raised $2,550 within the month of September. Congratulations for the outpouring of your generosity.
Class Bingo:
To assist with bingo revenue we will continue holding a class bingo night each month, starting in October. For our new families, the proceeds from bingo go towards tuition reduction ($50,000) for all families. Other revenue from bingo is placed in an account for maintenance or for new projects for the school. For instance the wall facing the upper yard needs to be repaired and waterproofed during the summer of 2018. At the moment water is seeping through the wall into the main building, which is doing damage to ceiling and flooring.
Classes Bingo Dates:
October 20th: Gr. 8
November 17th: Gr. 7
January 19th: Gr. 4 and 1
February 23rd: Gr. 5
March 23rd: Gr. K & 2
April 20th: Gr. 6
May 18th: Gr. 3
Confirmation:
Confirmation will be held on Saturday, October 14th at 10am at the Church. Bishop Justice will be celebrating the sacrament with our parish community. We wish all the candidates the best for this important day of receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
End of Quarter:
The end of the first quarter occurs on October 25th. I do need to remind everyone that all financials need to be up to date by this day. As per the contract, if financials are in arrears, children will not be able to return to class for the next quarter. Please do not put us in this position. As parents you have the responsibility to adhere to the agreement you have made with the school. We cannot have the situation we had last year where there was so much money outstanding. We are running on a very tight budget, and we are committed to pay our staff and our vendors.
God Bless,
Vincent Riener

“From ghoulies and ghosties and long-leggetty beasties and things that go bump in the night, Good Lord deliver us.” – traditional Scottish prayer
I have never enjoyed horror movies, but many people do. I have seen a few of the classics over the years, but this is definitely not my go-to movie genre. But, to each their own.
I was disturbed however, from an educator’s point of view, to hear first and second grade students talking about having gone to see the movie “It” over the weekend. This is an R-rated movie with beatings, shootings, swearing, and sex-related conversations. I don’t understand why these young children would have been taken to see such a movie. I remember this happening when “Titanic” was released and so many little girls were taken to see the movie because they were enthralled with the young Leo DiCaprio. This had only a PG-13 rating, but contained many adult themes, nudity, and sexual situations. It is considered tame by today’s standards, certainly, but was never intended for six and seven year olds.
I will not tell any parent what is the right way to raise their children. I would like to pass along a resource, though, that might be a valuable tool in helping parents research media choices that are appropriate for their children’s age and maturity level. It is called Common Sense Media (https://www.commonsensemedia.org/) and has detailed book, movie, and game reviews along with information on websites, apps, and and answers to parent questions about media and children. I hope you will find this helpful.
All the best,
Miss J
