Message from Superintendent Dr. Latrice N. Mumin
Greetings, CUSD Families!
With Veterans Day just behind us, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the veterans in our CUSD community for their service and dedication. We deeply appreciate the sacrifices you’ve made. November is also Native American Heritage Month, and CUSD is proud to honor and celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of Native American communities. There are plenty of resources and interesting facts about Native American Heritage you can learn here.
This week is Pennsylvania ECYEH (Education for Children and Youth Experiencing Homelessness) Awareness Week, and our schools will be hosting activities to support children and youth experiencing homelessness, as well as their families. On Friday, November 15, our schools will go RED to raise awareness for this important cause, and we encourage everyone in our CUSD community to wear red in support.
This week is also World Kindness Week (November 11-17), which people often celebrate by donating books, food, or clothes to local communities, and by pledging to show empathy to others. Today, November 13, is World Kindness Day and a perfect reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
In this edition of Clipper Connection, you’ll find important updates, including details on upcoming parent-teacher conferences, school closures for the holidays, and highlights from recent events across our district.
Thank you for staying connected, and I look forward to another wonderful week ahead!
Reminder! Upcoming School Closures and Important Parent/Teacher Conferences Details
A reminder for families! Today is a half-day for scholars and there are a few school closures coming up. Please, take a look at the dates on the graphic below for details.
I encourage all parents, caregivers, and/or guardians to attend our upcoming Parent/Teacher Conferences on Tuesday, November 26. Your involvement makes a significant difference!
Parents should start to receive detailed information from their child’s school about the conferences, including the specific times for each school. If you have not received this information by next week, please reach out directly to your scholar’s school to secure a time for your conference.

CUSD Partners with Parent University for Title 1 Parent Workshop
On Tuesday, CUSD partnered with Parent University to host a Title 1 Parent Workshop led by the Education Law Center.
The presentation, "Know Your Rights: A Parent’s Guide to Navigating Exclusionary Discipline, Truancy & Attendance," provided parents with valuable information on:
- Parents' rights
- Key policies
- Strategies to navigate school discipline
- Attendance and truancy
The workshop focused on interrupting the school-to-prison pipeline by giving parents important tools to help support their children’s education.
Parents had the opportunity to ask both general and specific questions and received real-time feedback from the Education Law Center’s staff attorney who presented during the session.
Surveys were also distributed to attendees to gather input on future workshop topics and the most convenient times for families to attend.
Additional resources from the Education Law Center are available here for parents interested in learning more about the topics covered.
A special thank you to Ms. Claudia Averette, our Parent University volunteers, the Education Law Center, and everyone who attended the workshop.
Philadelphia Union Donates Laptops to Soccer Team
I’m honored to highlight our partnership with the Philadelphia Union.
Recently, the Union and their generous partners donated laptops to our high school soccer team.
Through this partnership, our soccer team has not only gained opportunities on the field but also tools for success off the field.
Thanks to the Union and their partners for this generous donation and for investing in our students and supporting their journeys both on and off the field!
Clippers Football Ends Season with 10-2 Record
Congratulations to our high school football team, cheerleaders, and coaching staff on an incredible season!
Although the season ended with a tough 45-16 loss in the District 1 Class 5A quarterfinals against West Chester Rustin, our team has so much to be proud of. They finished with an impressive 10-2 record and earned the Del Val League Champion title for the third consecutive year. We are so proud and feel that this has truly been a winning season!
Thank you to our student-athletes, cheerleaders, and coaches for the hard work, dedication, and #CPride you brought to every game.
Student-Athlete Workshop A Success
We had a fantastic turnout at last week’s Student-Athlete Workshop, where our high school athletes actively engaged in sessions on leadership, positive communication, and anti-hazing practices.
Thanks to our partnership with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Positive Coaching Alliance, students participated in interactive activities, including breakout sessions that encouraged them to demonstrate their understanding and commitment to these important values. We're dedicated to building well-rounded student-athletes who are empowered to succeed both on and off the field.
A special thanks to Athletic Director LaDontay Bell for bringing this valuable initiative to our athletic department!
