There is a phenomenal amount of work that our spectacular student body and staff look forward to showcasing at our Open House Night this Thursday April 24th. Attendance Matters!
As we reach the midpoint of March, we want to remind families about the importance of regular school attendance—except when your child is sick! In California, a student is considered chronically absent if they miss more than 10% of the school year, which for NBMS means more than 18 days total.
One way to help prevent chronic absenteeism is to take advantage of our Independent Study (IS) program, which allows students to keep up with their coursework and be marked present once their assignments are completed. Independent Study is available for any absence, even just one day!
How Independent Study Works
✔ Step 1: Requesting Independent Study
- If your child is absent, you’ll receive an email notification with a link to submit an Independent Study request.
- You can also find the Independent Study request link on the NBMS website.
✔ Step 2: Completing Assignments
- Students can access and complete their work via Google Classroom.
✔ Step 3: Finalizing the Process
- Once the work is completed, you’ll receive a final approval email.
- Submit your confirmation to ensure the absence is cleared.
⚠ Important Reminder: Absences will only be cleared once the final parent confirmation is submitted.
What Happens if My Child Becomes Chronically Absent?
If your child’s absences put them at risk of being chronically absent, we will:
✔ Send attendance letters as a formal notification.
✔ Set up meetings with families and students to create a plan for improving attendance.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please reach out. Thank you for your partnership in supporting your student’s success!

A very important note from Campus Kids Connection (CKC)- Do you need morning care from CKC next year? Please fill out this form and note that you would like before school care.
CKC's first step is surveying the families. Any families expressing interest in CKC morning care for next year, there is a morning care interest question on the survey linked above. From there, CKC will see if there is a need at some or all of the schools.
Afterschool CKC enrollment is currently open. Priority will be given to currently enrolled families, subsidized families, and any families referred by me. Form here
