Lines from the Library
Dike-Newell students have been participating in Hour of Code during library classes this week as well as having a special library visit to practice programming Bee-Bots. Hour of Code is a free introduction to computer science through fun activities and videos for learners of all skill levels. Schools around the world join the Hour of Code movement as part of Computer Science Education Week.
DNS students used PebbleGo to read about computer programming and coding. They also searched Epic to see how many books about coding were available. They read Coding Confusion by Kirsty Holmes and translated their names into binary code language. Students previewed two of the many activities available on the Hour of Code website and learned how they could access this site at school as well as at home. All of this learning ties into this years visitng author, Josh Funke! He wrote How to Code a Sandcastle and How to Code a Rollercoaster. These books will be read closer to his visit in May.
During the special Bee-Bot library visit, Ms. Hardman, with the help of second grade Coding Club members, taught students how to program the Bee-Bots. They then visited various stations for Bee-Bot challenges.
