Dear North Middle School Families,
Happy holidays! As we prepare to begin the second semester on January 6th, I want to inform you about a few important updates to our school rules and procedures that will be implemented after the winter break. These changes are designed to promote a more focused and organized learning environment for our students.
1. Cell Phone Policy
In accordance with Berkeley County policy, students will no longer be permitted to use their cell phones during lunch or recess. All cell phones should remain off and away throughout the school day. This policy helps reduce distractions and encourages meaningful social interactions during these unstructured times.
2. Locker Use
To streamline transitions and maximize instructional time, we will enforce strict locker times. Students may visit their lockers only at the following times:
- At the start of the school day when they enter the building
- Before reporting to lunch
- After lunch
- Before their 7th-period class
These designated times aim to reduce unnecessary trips and ensure students are prepared for each class.
3. iPad Expectations
Students are required to bring their charged, school-issued iPads to every class, including Unified Arts and Physical Education. iPads should not be left in classrooms and must be with students at all times, except during lunch and recess. Ensuring students have their devices is critical to their learning success, as iPads are an essential tool for many classroom activities and assignments.
We kindly ask for your support in discussing these updated procedures with your child. By working together, we can create an environment that fosters responsibility and academic success.
