Registration Is Now Open to Juniors & Seniors for Nevada Girls State 2024
Empowering Women, Inspiring Communities ~ June 16th - 22nd, 2024
This year’s session will take place at the University of Nevada, Reno.
American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Girls State programs offer training in the processes of good citizenship as practiced in a democratic society. Each summer, approximately 20,000 enthusiastic young women participate in ALA Girls State sessions across the nation. At ALA Girls State, the “citizens” study City, County, and State government processes. They do this by setting up their own miniature City, County and State governments. Then, they administer them according to the laws of their particular State.
After arriving at the UNR 4-H in Stateline, Nevada (where ALA Nevada Girls State takes place), delegates (now our citizens) are divided into two faux political parties to gain knowledge about the operation of a two-party system. Within these parties, the citizens form committees to revise and write legislation to be debated by the State Senators and Assemblywomen that they have elected to represent them.
ALA Nevada Girls State citizens participate in these instructional political parties, and elections are held to fill City, County, and State positions. Activities include legislative sessions, campaigning, party meetings, debating, and voting. The citizens also receive special instruction in parliamentary procedure and have the opportunity to hear from a number of guest speakers.

The Clark County Law Foundation is Recruiting for the Youth Restorative Program
The Clark County Law Foundation is currently recruiting students for the Youth Restorative Program (previously known as Trial by Peers).
The Youth Restorative Program (YRP) offers you a unique opportunity for students between 12 to 17 years old who are interested in advocating for their peers.
Enrollment and Training: They will undergo a rigorous 7-week summer course, equipping them with essential skills for effective advocacy in restorative justice circles. Through seminar-based classes, they'll delve into various aspects of the legal system, learning how to research laws and develop skills in communication, negotiation, and critical thinking.
Youth Advocates: Once they complete the training, they can opt to become a Youth Advocate. As a volunteer, they'll commit to advocating for individuals referred to the YRP. Under the guidance of licensed attorneys who act as mentors, they'll deepen their understanding of the restorative justice process and receive ongoing legal education and guidance.
Mentorship and Growth: They will play a vital role in their community as a Youth Advocate, offering support to their peers and contributing positively to their surroundings. Additionally, they'll attend Continuing Legal Education (CLE) sessions hosted by the YRP monthly. These sessions will serve to reinforce their knowledge and further enhance their advocacy skills, ensuring continuous growth and development.
