A Message from Dr. Holt
Dear RFISD Community,
As we are in the midst of this holiday season, I find myself reflecting on both personal trials and the challenges we see in our schools, country, and world. Recent events and the constant stream of negative news stories can often take our focus off what matters the most. What truly matters right now, though, is the celebration of this season and the recognition of the progress we observe in our students.
Our students are thriving and learning. Their dedication to their families, academics, and extra-curriculars is a testament to their character and intelligence. Their efforts are to be celebrated, as are their successes and their failures. Our students’ perseverance and adaptability to change are a testament to the strength of family, the power of education, and the hope of the season. It is an honor to be part of a community where growth is encouraged and expected.
As the new year approaches, many of us will reflect on the changes we experienced in 2024. Without a doubt, recent headlines, political shifts, and community changes will be topics of discussion; however, I hope we do not forget to reflect, observe, and be grateful for what we have been given, both now and in the past.
As I reflect on the changes in my own life, I find that despite some situational discomfort, there is ample room for joy that is rooted in community, faith, and tradition. My family has some wonderful Christmastime traditions that we have enjoyed celebrating this month. We have watched movies like It’s a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, and Die Hard (Yes, in our house Die Hard is definitely a Christmas movie!). We baked Christmas wreath cookies, played Christmas music and put up Christmas lights (starting only after Thanksgiving Day, of course!), and read The Christmas Story, as we do each year.
Regardless of how your family celebrates the season, I hope you have found some time this December to enjoy your traditions and maybe even start a few new ones. I hope you have spent time with your loved ones and found opportunities to celebrate all that we have been given. And, finally, I hope you will continue to recognize the growth in your children and what another year has brought them. We are looking forward to continued success for all of our students in 2025!
I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Warmest Regards,
Brian Holt, EdD
