From the Abernethy Office

Happy End of Tuesday Abernethy Community!
It is only Tuesday, yet I feel like the week is flying by already! You will see in this newsletter that we have so many exciting things happening around Abernethy as well as a lot coming up. Many of our fun events are our class field trips! Please, please and please, check to make sure that you have your background check done prior to joining your students class on the morning of their field trip. Background checks are good for 3 years from when you first fill it out, Sometimes we forget when we fill them out and then show up for a field trip and are told that you can not join. Having to say that to a family or a student breaks our hearts! I am encouraging all teachers to bring their chaperone lists to the office to be checked prior to the field trip as well. We want you all to be able to join on such amazing adventures with your student and make lots of memories!
Abernethy 2024 Open House!
THURSDAY - April 25th - 5:30pm - 7:00pm
Please join us for our 2024 Abernethy Open House this Thursday!
Do you have neighbors who want to see what Abernethy is all about? Do you have preschool age children in your neighborhood? Do you have family members who want to come and see what is happening in Abernethy? Well, this Open House is perfect for them as well as for you!
This is a community event that is 100% student led and student focused! Our Abernethy students will lead you around the school on a scavenger hunt of all the amazing things that we are doing in all grades K-5!
You will have an opportunity to walk around and check your current classroom as well as new classrooms, and even old ones. You can see friends that you have not seen in a while, remember that we are coming out of Winter when everyone tends to not leave their house. You can check in with past teachers and introduce yourself to future ones.
This is a great event that you will not want to miss. You do not need to show up right at 5:30pm either! It is a come as you can and leave as you can, just as long as it is before 7:30pm. I need the teachers to go home and get their beauty sleep to ensure that they come back Friday morning!
The staff and I are looking forward to seeing all that can come!
Garden & Grounds Spring Cleaning & Planting 🌱
More than 20 parents and students joined the Garden & Grounds work party this Sunday, in honor of the Abernethy Garden and Earth Day! They cleaned up the garden, weeded, planted 30+ plants and generally spruced it up! A team of students planted a Red Dragon Weeping Japanese Maple, which will grow to 10’ tall in about 15 years. Please check it out, and look out for future work party opportunities.
Contact grounds@supportabernethy.org with questions or ideas!
A team of 10 also cleaned out one of the courtyards for access for 4th & 5th graders during recess. Thank you to Cressa, Bryce, John, Amber and Allison for bringing the kids and cleaning out the courtyards and picnic tables for the 4th and 5th graders.

Thank you for the AMAZING Fun Run!
I want to express my absolute gratitude for all who helped make the Fun Run such a success! A BIG thank you to Travis who organized the event and provided some extremely entertaining entertainment for the runners as well as all the energy that you brought to all the students as they ran!
We want to thank each and everyone of you who supported Abernethy's book fair!!
Thank you to all volunteers, families, adults and children who read, learn and work at our school! The response and sales were outstanding with a total of $11,212 in sales. Our school received $5,498.86 in Scholastic Dollars to be spent with the Scholastic company. Some of the Scholastic Dollars were used to purchase books from the fair for our library and books selected by teachers for their classroom. We are looking into purchasing additional headphones for student use in the library as well as other supplies and books for our school with Scholastic Dollars. I hope everyone is enjoying the books they received from this event!
