Dear GLOBE families,
There are only two weeks left until summer break. Please check the key dates for upcoming events and note that the last day of school, Wednesday, May 22, is an early release day.
Upper Campus Field Day takes place on Monday and Tuesday next week. We are still in need of volunteers to help set up and manage the various stations, especially for 6th and 7th grades on Tuesday. If you are able to assist, please sign up here.
GLOBE's 8th grade students had a wonderful time during their trip to Savannah last week and we are pleased to include a few images below. We're looking forward to seeing them graduate in the very near future!
In community,
Christi Elliott-Earby
Executive Director
Summer Camp spaces still available
There is still some availability for this year's Summer Language Camp which takes place from June 10 to June 28, 2024. This year we are also offering classes for our newest GLOBE students. We will have incoming kindergarten classes in each of the three languages. Click here to register. If you have any questions, please send the summer camp team an email.

Lower Campus
Field Day
Last week's LC Field Day was amazing. We had such lovely weather and the children had a great time! Thank you to all of our wonderful staff, PTCC, and the many volunteers who made the day such a success. Look out for next week's newsletter in which we will feature a link to view a selection of photos taken by GLOBE's volunteer photography team.
Upper Campus
Field Days

Tuesday, May 14: 6th and 7th grade
Download the event flyer here.
All GLOBE families are welcome to come along and cheer on our Olympic athletes as they compete!
Parking: If you are planning to attend, please park across the road at Church in Atlanta.
Please note: Due to the time restrictions of ongoing MAP testing and language AP exams, 8th grade will not participate in Field Day.
We need your help
Upper Campus require volunteers to help with specific games and to help the coaches overall. If you are able to assist, sign up here.
Lost and Found
Please remind your students to check for lost items as we get closer to the end of the school year.
Finding Ollie
The 8th grade Leadership class presents episode 12 of Finding Ollie.
Band students participate in the DeKalb County 5th and 6th grade Honor Band
On Saturday, fourteen 6th grade Band students participated in the DeKalb County 5th & 6th grade Honor Band. Congratulations to Ade Adenipekun, Samuel Deneke, Jake Goldstein, Andrew Green, Daniel Hernandez Cordova, Haset Lachore, Samhitha Maddu, Waylon Naughton, Samuel Rivera-Morales, Julia Samalin, Alessandra Stefanini, Elizabeth Thompson, Bobby Weber, and Santiago Yeganeh!
Art
UC art students do this simple but important practice every school year. They draw objects from nature, from shells found on far away beaches to leaves and shrubs around GLOBE. They focus on observation as their starting point, considering shape, texture, color, shadow and light.
UC Clinic
Medication collection deadline
All medications (prescription or as needed) must be collected by May 21.
Scoliosis screening
Scoliosis screening is being carried out for students in grades 6 and 8. This is a requirement from the Georgia Department of Public Health. The grade levels to be screened are set by the County. If you wish to opt out of screening for your child, please complete Form 4400 and either email it to the UC Nurse, or hand it in at the front office. Thank you. Pat Solomon RN, Upper Campus.
Language Program
Our most recent Coffee Talk presentation about STAMP can be viewed here. Visit our website for a range of useful resources, and to watch recordings from previously held Coffee Talks.
Nutrition
The breakfast and lunch menus for May can be found on the website, here.
For further information about school meals, MyPaymentPlus, nutrition, and the USDA, visit GLOBE’s website at theglobeacademy.org/School-Lunch. If you have any questions or need help, please contact Briana Caddell.
Admissions
GLOBE is excited to welcome our new students to our community next year, however, we do understand that plans can change. Having an accurate count for the school year allows us to plan and budget appropriately and allows a student from our waiting list to fill the open spot.
If your plans to return to GLOBE have changed from “yes” to “no” between now and the start of the 2024/25 school year, please let us know by completing this form: Student Withdrawal Notification*.
*The Student Withdrawal Form requires a Google account sign-in to upload the necessary ID documents. If you do not have a Google account, please contact the Registrar to notify us.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Tamiko Jones, Admissions Coordinator, via email at Admissions@theglobeacademy.net or call 404-464-7040, ext. 225.
To request student records, send an email to: Registrar@theglobeacademy.net.
Parent Teacher Community Council
Staff Appreciation Week
PTCC is thrilled to present a Week of Stars! We will honor our SUPERSTAR staff from May 6–10.
Download the flyer, here, for more information.
Used Uniform Collection Day this Friday
It’s time to drop-off your used uniforms and spirit wear. This Friday, May 10, we will collect used uniforms during carpool. UC parents, please have your children drop uniforms in the designated bins as they enter the building. LC parents, a volunteer will collect uniforms while you move through the carpool. Please be prepared to hand your bags to the volunteer quickly, so that the carpool line can continue to flow smoothly. Download the flyer here.
Last Day of School: PTCC Spirit Night at Stars & Strikes
Come celebrate the end of the school year with us at a GLOBE Spirit Night! Join us on Wednesday, May 22, from noon until close (midnight) at Stars and Strikes (1741 Mountain Industrial Blvd).
School will be a half day (early release), so you can head to Stars & Strikes right after school or later in the evening to celebrate with other GLOBE families. Fifteen percent of sales will go back to PTCC. After paying, please give your receipt to the PTCC volunteer at the venue to be included in the total for the night. Download the flyer here.
PTCC Officers Election Update
GLOBE's Parent Teacher Community Council (PTCC) did not receive nominations for two volunteers to serve as officers for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years. Thus, we have postponed the PTCC officer elections.
If you are interested in running for the position of Co-Chair or Secretary for the PTCC, please email your name, position of interest and a summary (not to exceed 500 words) on why you would like to hold an officer position to the Executive Director, Christi Elliott-Earby and to the PTCC Co-chairs (ptccofficers.globeacademy@gmail.com). Please detail your past experience at GLOBE or other school leadership or volunteer positions. Candidates will be evaluated based on why they are interested and prior parent involvement/volunteer experience. If you have any questions, feel free to email PTCC Officers.
“Volunteer of the Month” Carpool Winners!
Congratulations to our volunteers of the month, Cristina Bernal and Katie Hunt. We hope you enjoy using the “Volunteer of the Month” carpool flag to skip the line this month of May. Special shout-out to Florence Cannon for her volunteerism as well. Be sure to log your volunteer hours for a chance to win next month!
The 2024 PTCC Annual GLOBE Auction
There are a few items left in the Fire Sale, and you can still donate to the Fund-a-Project by visiting the Auction website.
Order from Minted
Do you have a high school graduate this spring? If you're ordering announcements, consider ordering from Minted, and use our promo code. You'll get 20% off your purchase price, and GLOBE PTCC will get a 15% donation. It's a WIN-WIN! When placing an order, simply enter FUNDRAISEGLOBE in the promo code box at checkout.
Lost and Found: Please label your items
Parent volunteers return labeled items to the owner's classroom. If your items are not labeled, they may never make it back home. Please take a moment to find a labeling solution that will work for you. Here are some ideas to get you started: Avery No-Iron Kids Clothing Labels, Sharpie Fabric Marker, and Mabel's Labels (customizable labels and stamps, dishwasher and laundry safe. Enter "The GLOBE Academy" in the "support a fundraiser" field, and they'll donate 20% back to GLOBE!).
Volunteer hours can help GLOBE receive grants
Did you know that when you volunteer, it can help GLOBE receive grants? Some donors want to know how involved the community is. We can show them that parents are invested in the school by sharing the volunteer hours we have tracked. So please remember to log your hours here. When you log your time, you'll also be entered in our drawing for a volunteer-of-the-month carpool flag. As a reminder, each family is requested to volunteer ten hours each year. To see current volunteer opportunities, click here. Thank you for volunteering at GLOBE.
Shopping can help GLOBE!
Did you know when you shop at places like Publix, Kroger, and OfficeMax/Office Depot, they will donate to GLOBE PTCC? To find out how to easily set this up, click here. Every penny counts!

Yearbook
Pre-ordered 2023/24 Yearbooks will be distributed to homerooms on May 20.
If you did not pre-order and would still like to purchase a yearbook, you can still purchase one online between now and May 20 via Jostens, but they will need to be collected from the front office at UC after school on May 20.
Do you have old yearbooks you are willing to donate?
We would like to maintain a collection of past yearbooks in the LC and future UC libraries, but we are missing quite a few. If you are willing to part with your old GLOBE yearbook, we will gladly add it to our collection AND label it with your name.
