Preparation for Next School Year
Principals K-5 do not accept requests for specific teachers. However, we take such great pride in placing students in collaboration with the other building principals, the current classroom teacher, and other school staff. It is a very time consuming process and we truly look at each individual child when considering placement for the next grade level. While we do not always get this perfect, we do try our best to place students in the most optimal learning environment with the information we have. We welcome communication about certain factors we should be aware of in regards to your child, but discourage individual requests. We appreciate your trust in our team with this very important process that we value so much.
Summer Technology Information
Please read the below attachment concerning information about Chromebooks and summer usage.
24-25 School Supply Lists
We are not trying to rush summer, but we know some people are ready to buy school supplies in June! Please use the above list when shopping for your child's supplies for the 24-25 school year. Also, note that at times throughout the school year your child's teacher may ask for additional items.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MAP Testing
During May students will be taking their MAP benchmark tests. We take the MAP assessments three times a year to gauge your child's progress in reading and math. Specific testing dates will be announced by your child's teacher(s). Once the MAP window is closed in the coming weeks, and all testing is complete, you will receive a report of their results.
Heritage STEAM Week
STEAM Week is back! May 13-17, our school will enjoy personations, labs and fun to promote the joy science brings so many.
KWC May Activity: “Growing Towards a Positive Future” (Showing kindness within our school community)
- For our May activity, on 5/14 (Purple Group) and 5/21 (Gold Group), we will be sprucing up our school's Community Reading Garden and showing appreciation for our teachers.
- During our monthly meeting, students will create cards to show thanks for our teaching/school staff. In addition, we will be weeding our School Community Garden. This project will be sure to put a smile on the faces of staff members that are receiving cards and students that are using our garden space. We hope your child can join us for this month's activity. Please have them wear clothes that can get dirty. :)
What is Happening in Specials at Heritage?
Mrs. Lee’s Art Classes
Mrs. Lee's 4th graders (Neuman.Anderson.Suter.James.Barrett.Bendzuck.Peters) are finally finishing up their endangered animal embroidery projects and they are looking beautiful! They really went above and beyond my expectations for this project and you can tell. As the saying goes, "slow and steady wins the race." I am so proud. I hope everyone has a wonderful, safe and relaxing summer and I will see your children in the Fall as 5th graders!!
Mrs. Lee's 5th graders started off the month of April with an Eclipse project. They learned about how to blend colors with oil or chalk pastels. It was a nice being able to connect to a once in a lifetime event (maybe two for them) that was taking place. They are now currently working on a watercolor silhouette project that was inspired by the Artist John Marshall. Marshall is known for his entertaining, "sunset selfies" that became well known during COVID. I hope everyone has a wonderful, safe and relaxing summer. Good luck to you and your children in the Fall at AMS!
Mrs. Ryan's Art Classes
t’s hard to believe it's already May! We hope to see you all at the district art show tonight, May 1st, from 6:00-8:00 at the PAC. If you miss the reception, there are additional gallery hours on Saturday and Sunday, May 4th and 5th from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
In the South art room, we are still busy making art for the remaining weeks of school! Both 3rd and 4th grade are diving into watercolor painting. Third grade classes are making Pop Art by drawing 4 different food items and giving them bright, bold colors! Fourth grade classes are designing new logos for some of their favorite brands. They are practicing replicating the font and then creating their own design to give it personal “flare”!
Mrs. Bryant's Music Classes
I am so proud of the 3rd and 4th graders for their hard work in learning music for our concert. They are amazing! It’s been a wonderful year so far. Looking forward to our last classes together in the 23/24 school year.
Recently, Avon music has been awarded one of NAMM’s best communities in music education. Our music team is honored to have our school recognized. Heritage students are the perfect age to start getting more involved in music. In 5th grade, they will spend a lot of time talking about music ensembles offered at the middle school. Now would be a good time to get them signed up for private lessons, choir, or other opportunities.
This website provides contact information for music teachers and groups in the area. Please reach out if you have any questions:
Mr. Moellman's Music Classes
5th Grade Spring Concert
The fifth graders will be on stage one more time as elementary students! 5/22, 7pm @ AHS PAC. Students should arrive at 6:30pm and report to the stage. There are no specific dress requirements, please avoid shorts! This performance will be a chance to look back at elementary school and look forward to middle school. It will feature the music of Tom Petty.
Mr. Jayne's Physical Education Classes
The students in physical education have been working on jumping rope. They are working towards becoming a jump rope ninja starting off with earning a white belt all the way up to a black belt. The students are challenged and motivated to work their way up as far as they can. Jumping rope is a great exercise, fun, improves cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, coordination, strengthens bones, and improves footwork.
Mr. Mauser's Physical Education Classes
For the month of May Heritage P.E. will be wrapping up our Neighborhood Play Unit, which focuses on outside activities the students can use to foster large group play within their neighborhood. We will then transition into our Field Day Stations to help give the students a chance to see all the games that will be played at this end of the year event.
