A Message from Mrs. Stauffer
Dear Rainbow Families,
April showers bring May flowers! It is hard to believe that we are in the last few days of April and with May quickly approaching, I wanted to remind you of some important dates in May.
More dates will be communicated in upcoming Monday Morning Messages.
- May 14th: Rainbow Spring Arts Fest and Spring Concert.
- May 15th Rainbow Field Day
This week our third through fifth grade students continue taking the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) exams. These tests include both multiple choice questions and open-ended responses. These assessments will be administered on the following days:
Math: April 29th and April 30th
Science (4th Grade Only): May 1st and May 2nd
We wish our student luck on the state assessments!
Respectfully,
Mrs. Stauffer
Field Day 2024
On Wednesday, May 15th, Rainbow will host our annual Field Day. This year our Field Day will have an Olympic theme! Parents are invited to come and join us outside on May 15th for this special day.
The Field Day stations will be from:
K-2 – 9:50-11:00
3-5 –11:00-12:10
Please know that Wednesday, May 15th is a 12:30 early dismissal for students. While there are scheduled Field Day stations outside, activities are planned for the entire school day. Activities include games and special treats. We encourage your student to remain in school to participate in all of the planned activities.
Parents/Guardians in Grades K-2, if you are joining us for Field Day and you plan on picking your child up from school, please email an early dismissal note to RBAttendance@casdschools.org or send in an early dismissal note with your student. You will sign your student out after their last Field Day event with your classroom teacher.
Parents/Guardians in Grades 3-5, if you are joining us for Field Day and plan on picking your 3-5 student up from school, you will meet them in the front of the school and sign them out with their classroom teacher. If you have a younger student to pick up, please join the parent pick up line.
This year we are having a FIELD DAY COLOR CONTEST between the grade levels. We would like the students to demonstrate their FIELD DAY SPIRIT by wearing as much of their grades’ color as possible. Each student has a possibility of scoring 5 points for their grade! One point for wearing sneakers or socks that match their color, 1 point for their shorts, 1 point for their Field Day shirt (provided by the PTO) and up to 2 points for any accessory (hat, sunglasses, nail polish, etc.)! We hope the students will have a fabulous time dressing in their color and showing their FIELD DAY SPIRIT. The winning grade will be announced during the afternoon announcements and receive an extra recess! A big THANK YOU to the PTO for providing the students with a Field Day t-shirt in their color!
This Year’s Colors

5th Grade Important End of Year Information
CASD Middle School Scheduling
Our Fifth Grade teachers and school counselors will be working with students the week of May 6th to help them schedule their course for sixth grade. This is an exciting time!
Students will be placed by our teachers into their core classes based on reading and math benchmarking data collected throughout the school year. Related arts courses offer some scheduling options for students. All students will be scheduled for Art, Family & Consumer Science, Health, and STEM. In addition to those classes, students can select two elective courses from Chorus, Band, Orchestra, Physical Education, and Spanish. School Counselors and teachers will help students schedule these classes in the Home Access Center.
Please look for more information to come home regarding scheduling. Once middle school core class placements have been finalized, parents will receive request verification sheets from the middle school indicating their student’s courses for next school year. The middle school team is certainly happy to discuss any placement questions or requests at that time and contact information will be included with that information.
Message from the School Nurse
Allergy season is upon us, and we just want to remind everyone to medicate children at home with allergy medication prior to coming to school.
The students do go outside for recess and gym. It is essential that children have their allergy medication before going outdoors, due to the high pollen count this time of year.
Please be sure that:
1. Students take their allergy medications daily at home. Non-drowsy
formulas are good choices because they will not leave your child tired and
dehydrated, or have them take them before bed if they cause drowsiness.
2. If your child requires over the counter eye drops to be given at school, parents can send a signed note along with the medication, in its original unopened package. All medication must be brought to the school by an adult. Please do not send medication in your child’s backpack.
3. If your child requires prescription medication, a physician’s note must accompany the medication, and have the original pharmacy package and name label attached. It must be brought to the school nurse by an adult.
Please contact the school nurse with any questions.
Classroom Teacher Requests
Each year, Rainbow faculty are responsible for assigning each student to a classroom for the following school year. A great deal of time, effort, and thought goes into the process of student placement. We strive to balance our classrooms academically and socially and provide equitable class sizes at each grade level.
At Rainbow, we have a skilled team of teachers who are ready to support our students. I am confident that your child(ren) will thrive in any of their classrooms as our teachers are adept with supporting students and their individual needs.
Please know that due to the size of our school, staffing movement, and the complexity of the class planning process, we do not accept requests for specific teachers. Thank you for your understanding. Together, we will make the 2024-2025 school year one of growth and achievement for all children.
