What are your hopes as you join Red Wing Public Schools?
I hope that I can make a positive impact on the lives of every student that I teach. I want them to succeed academically and emotionally in my classroom environment, and I want them to have fun while learning at the same time with every lesson I teach.
What do you want your students to know from Day 1?
I want them to know that they are the reason I come to school each and every day – I look forward to seeing them and working with them! I want them to know that I am here to take care of them and support them no matter what they need, and they can always count on me to be in their corner with helping strategies.
When did you realize that you wanted to teach?
I realized I wanted to teach right before my senior year of high school, when I began working at a YMCA kid’s day camp for the summer and absolutely loved it. My family always had an inkling I would become a teacher though, as I am a natural born leader and I would always play “School” with my younger cousins and stuffed animals.
What’s your first day of school memory?
Since I am teaching first grade, I will go with my first grade first day of school memory! I remember waiting at the bus stop in my little shoes, dress, and Hello Kitty backpack/lunchbox being SO nervous. But, as soon as I arrived at school, my first grade teacher was so kind and welcoming and made us all feel safe and loved from day one. I loved coming to school after that day! I hope I can do what Ms. Olson did for me, for my own students.
