PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Glade Families,
As we approach the end of the school year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful experiences and accomplishments we’ve shared. This year has been filled with growth, learning, and many memorable moments. We are incredibly proud of our students and grateful for the support and partnership of our families.
End of Year Wrap-Up
As we conclude the school year, here are a few important reminders and updates:
Final Report Cards: Your child's final report card will be sent home on the last day of school. Please review it and celebrate the achievements and progress your child has made this year
Summer Reading Program: To keep your child engaged and learning over the summer, we encourage you to visit the Walkersville Library.
Looking Ahead to the New School Year
- Even as we say goodbye to this school year, we are already planning and preparing for the next. Be on the lookout for your child's room assignment, which will be mailed to you in early August.
We thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Have a wonderful summer break, and we look forward to seeing you in August!

Principal
LOST & FOUND
We have several items that have been found throughout this school year (i.e. jackets, lunchboxes, etc). If you would like to survey our “Lost & Found” located in the cafeteria, please do so by the last day of school. Unclaimed articles will be given to a charitable organization.
CAFETERIA CHARGES
Please make sure that if your child has charged their lunch this year that it is repaid before the last day of school.
MEDIA NOTE FROM MS. DATTOLI
All library books are due. Click HERE to see what your child currently has checked out. If a library book is lost or damaged, please contact Ms. Dattoli at tina.dattoli@fcps.org. Report cards will be held until the books are returned or paid for. Thank you in advance for your help in returning our library books by May 24 in preparation for inventory before summer break. Do not wait as this helps determine our class sizes. If you or someone you know has an incoming kindergarten student, the following link will direct you to all of the necessary information: https://www.fcps.org/ece/k-enrollment.

A NOTE FROM THE HEALTH ROOM
ATTENTION PARENTS/GUARDIANS
Medication Reminders
The last day of school is June 7th, 2024. According to FCPS Regulation 400-23 students are not permitted to take their medications home at the end of the school year. A parent/guardian must pick up all medications in the health room by the end of the school day on June 7, 2024. To arrange for pick-up please contact health room staff directly or stop by during school hours.
All non-emergency medications and expired medications of any kind remaining in the health room will be destroyed at the end of the school year, unless alternate arrangements have been made directly with health room staff.
Summer School
If your child will be attending a summer FCPS program and medication must be administered during summer school hours, contact the health room for additional guidance.
Preparing for the 2024-25 School Year
All medication/treatment authorization form(s) must be renewed at the beginning of each school year. Ensure that the appropriate authorization form is completed by your healthcare provider. Forms are available online at www.fcps.org.
Verify the expiration dates on your child's medication(s). Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 10.34.23.07, dictates that we determine expiration dates as follows: one year from the dispensing date on the pharmacy label (OR) expiration date on the medication package, whichever comes first.
If the instructions on the pharmacy label states, "see attached", you must provide the pharmacy attachment. Medication will not be accepted without the required attachments.
To ensure your child's medication/treatment needs are met at the start of the school year contact the health room on or after August 12, 2024, to arrange a drop off time for medications/supplies and completed forms. Health room staff will review medication/treatment authorization forms and medications with the parent/guardian to ensure compliance with state regulations. If the medication/treatment authorization forms and/or medications do not meet compliance, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to follow up with their health care provider. Per FCPS Reg 400-23, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to deliver medication/treatment authorization form(s) and medications directly to health room staff. Please do not send your child to school with medications.
Thank you for your cooperation.

EARLY DISMISSAL & ABSENCE NOTES
If your student is leaving early or has an appointment, a written note to the office is appreciated. This not only lets the teacher know to have them ready, but assists the office with identifying the parent/guardian of the student and prevents delays.
Any changes in your child's transportation home needs to be shared with the front office. Please CALL the office for dismissal changes before 2:30. If you email the teacher only and they are absent, nobody will get that information. Thank you.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
- Address change: Please provide a new proof of residency (a copy of a property tax bill, gas bill, electric bill, water/sewer, cable bill or a signed current lease/rental agreement; NO phone bill or mortgage statements).
- Custody change: If there is a change in child custody, please make sure you share that information with your child’s teacher and the office. It is extremely important that a copy of the court document be delivered to the school and placed in the child’s permanent record folder. Should the school not have this documentation, we have no recourse but to release your child to either parent upon request.
- Weapons: Possession of any firearm or other weapon by a student on school property is strictly forbidden. This also includes look-alike weapons. The penalties for violation are detailed in the Discipline section of the FCPS handbook. Please remember it is a serious offense to possess a weapon of any kind on school property.
