Principal's Spotlight
Dear Steeby families,
Time is flying by as we near the halfway point of the school year, and I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside our Steeby Staff and all of you to build an amazing place for your students to learn and grow. It has been an absolute joy getting to know them, watching their personalities shine, and seeing the growth they’ve made in their academics and personal development. Together, we’ve focused on building strong relationships, fostering a love for learning, and supporting one another as a school community. Your children’s hard work and determination inspire me every day, and I’m excited to see how they continue to learn and grow in the months ahead. Thank you for trusting us with this important journey—we are truly stronger together! We wish you the happiest of holidays and a long, restful and relaxing break.
Yours in education,
Karri Bailey, Principal

Shining on our Specials Classes!
Awesome Art
Second Grade: Students put their knowledge to work this month making an Element of Arts turkey~ They showed color, line, shape, value and texture on their feathers. These turkeys turned out colorful and cute!
Third Grade: We kicked off our weaving unit this month. Students are having so much fun weaving on a cardboard loom. They love picking all the fun yarn colors and when completed they become a unique piece of art.

Media Moments
Happy December!
We have been busy in media class. We are finishing up our Mock Caldecott unit and voting for our favorite picture book. We are hoping one of the four books we read wins the Caldecott for best illustrations in January. Students also finished up their typing unit on Typetastic. Now we are celebrating Hour of Code in December. We are going to the Hour of Code website on Information Place: https://sites.google.com/waylandunion.org/libraries/home. Students will learn how to do basic coding using kid friendly coding games. Students love creating their own coding games.
Our Tech Wizards this month are Olivia and Brennen! Congratulations!
Happy Reading and Coding!

Moved by Music
Greetings from Music! During the month of November, both 2nd grade and 3rd grade have been working on learning new music notes and melody words (solfege). We have been incorporating those new notes and melody words in songs that we are singing. We also learned about different American Indian tribes through songs and informational videos. We celebrated World Kindness Day by singing songs. We have also been working on the CKH trait of teamwork by working together to move our bodies, sing as a group, play a music game and color a kindness poster.

Social Skills Snippet with Ms. M
Once a month, Miss M our School Social Worker goes into classrooms and teaches different Social Emotional Skills. This month in our social skills lessons, we learned about Thoughts, Feelings, and Behaviors and how they are all connected!
We learned that:
Thoughts are what we say to ourselves in our heads, such as “I can’t wait!” or “ This is hard”.
Feelings are emotions we have in our minds and our bodies such as sad, mad, excited, happy
Behaviors are actions that we do such as crying, laughing, or yelling.
We then learned our Think, Feel Do Locomotion, which is below. This helps our students understand that thoughts turn into feelings, which then can affect our behavior. If we are able to notice our thoughts and feelings, then we can change our behavior or how we respond! Feel free to ask your student to do the motions provided in the visual when thinking about a situation in their lives.

👀 Looking for Volunteers! 👀
SuperCat Store Volunteers
Steeby Elementary is looking for volunteers for our School Supercat Store! Once a month, students get a chance to spend their supercat tickets that they earn for good behavior at our store. There are many different prizes that they get to choose from! We need parent and family volunteers to assist with helping students shop, counting their tickets, and setup/clean up. Please sign up for a day or time, we would love to have you! Any questions feel free to email Ms. M at millermadaje@waylandunion.org or Mrs. Bailey at baileyk@waylandunion.org
Cafeteria and Recess Helpers!
We are looking to welcome in parents, grandparents, relatives, community members to volunteer in our cafeteria during breakfast or lunch, and on our playground to help out! See the flyer. You can also find the form to fill out if you are interested.
ICHAT Volunteer Form
Parents who wish to enter the school for any activities, volunteer opportunities, or field trips, must have an active ICHAT background check on file. ICHAT background checks are good for 1 year from submission date and cover schools in the entire district. That means if you have students in multiple buildings across the district, you only need to fill out ONE ICHAT form. ICHAT request forms can be filled out on our website, www.waylandunion.org. Click Parents/Students > Parent Quick Links > ICHAT Request Form, or simply click the button below to get started!
