NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL LOVERSKY
Talking Positively About Middle School!
We had a great week here at Wredling! I saw so many wonderful things happen- from kids helping each other with their lockers to students making connections and developing new friends! And our teachers worked intentionally to help your child start the year in a positive way. With that in mind, I want you to consider the importance of talking about middle school in a positive way- even when middle school can be challenging!
Why It Matters
A positive middle school atmosphere has far-reaching benefits for students, teachers, and the entire community. It's important for us to think about how we talk about school to our kids. Often, if we have had a bad experience, even many years ago, we project that experience on our kids. Here’s why it’s crucial to talk about middle school in a positive way:
- Student Attendance: A positive environment and perspective encourages regular attendance, which is essential for academic success1.
- Reduced Stress: When parents talk positively about school, it reduces stress for both children and teachers.
- Improved Mindset: A positive outlook fosters resilience and a growth mindset in everyone involved.
- It Helps Students Like School: When a parent tells their child about positive experiences, it often sparks positive experiences. And when a parent relates negative experiences, it often sparks negative experiences.
Tips for Parents
1. Believe in Your Child:
- Use positive language that conveys your belief in their social and academic abilities and intentions. Your child can do middle school in a positive way!
- Encourage them to phrase things in positive ways. Don't forget to ask them, what is one positive thing that happened at school today?
2. Ask Open-Ended Questions:
- Encourage dialogue by asking questions that require thoughtful responses.
- Ask questions like, “What was a great part of your school day, and why was it good?”
3. Focus on Effort:
- Praise effort rather than just outcomes.
- Instead of saying, “Did you have fun at school?” ask, "What did you enjoy most about school today?".
4. Create Heart-to-Heart Moments:
- Use conversation starters during family meals or bonding time.
- Ask questions like, “What are you grateful for today?” or "How did someone help you today?" or "Where did you see some kindness today?"
Remember, positive language builds self-confidence, encourages communication, and shapes children’s perceptions of themselves and school. By fostering a positive environment, you empower your middle schooler to thrive academically and emotionally.
We had a great 3 days with our RedHawks and I am looking forward to a great year!
Best-
Tim

Picture Retakes
Which applies to your family?
1) My Student DID NOT get their school photo taken at Material Pick-Up
If your student did NOT get their school picture taken at Material Pick-Up either July 30th or July 31st, they will be taken on Monday, August 26th during the morning at school. The order and prepay form below is ONLY for students who will have their pictures taken and order on August 26th.
2) My Student DID get their school photo taken at Material Pick-Up & I ordered pictures
You only need to place an order if you did not purchase from our original picture days during Material Pick-Up or if you are unhappy with the photo order - which will be sent home with your student next week. If you choose to have a picture retake you will need to return the original photo package. Your student MUST bring the photo package with them on August 28th to the photographer. DO NOT USE THE CODE FROM THE ORDER FORM BELOW AS IT IS NOT FOR THE MATERIAL PICKUP DAYS.
3) My student DID get their school photo taken but I DID NOT order
Your student will recieve a preview photo on a small calendar. These will be distributed next week at school along with the photo packets. We will notify families when those have been distributed. Many students don't bring them home so be sure to ask your student for it. If you like the preview and would like to order prints, there will be directions on the calendar for ordering. DO NOT USE THE CODE FROM THE ORDER FORM BELOW AS IT IS NOT FOR THE MATERIAL PICKUP DAYS.
