Fidalgo Family Flyer
For the Week of October 17, 2022
Important Dates for the Week of June 10, 2024
Monday, June 10
- Piper and Henry Swanson are Principals for the Day (winners at the Fidalgo Auction). They have declared that today is Crazy Hair and/or Hat Day!
-
Watch for the "Real Dawgs Read" Reading Log that was sent home with your child last week. New this year, they can, and should, start recording their reading as soon as they receive their reading log - they do not have to wait for the last day of school to record time. All students need to do is record 30 minutes of reading a day, on any 30 days over the summer. Then drop their reading log in the mailbox (postage paid). The University of Washington will then send them a FREE baseball hat, beanie, or string backpack! What a great elementary school-to- university connection! This both promotes summer reading and a college-going vision for our young students. Please encourage your children to participate! See related article.
If your child's bus drop-off or pick-up will change in 2024/25, please let us know. If there WILL be a change to your child's bus pick-up and delivery for the 2024-25 school year, go into Skyward Family Access and complete a new transportation request form. See related article below for more information about transportation for the upcoming school year.
Tuesday, June 11
- Students who participated in "Real Dawgs Read" last summer are encouraged to wear the baseball hats or beenies they earned, or bring their UW cinch bags, to inspire the rest of the student body to do the summer reading and mail in their reading logs.
- 1:30 – Fidalgo’s Got Talent Show - Gymnasium
- 4:00 – Car Parade begins for ASD students graduating from high school (Cars with grads line up on 3rd and Commercial at 3:15.)
Wednesday, June 12
- 10:45 a.m. – ASD seniors who are Fidalgo alums return to Fidalgo to walk the hall and be cheered and high fived by K through 5th students. This is a lovely tradition that celebrates our alums while inspiring our future high school (and beyond) grads. Fidalgo students are encouraged to wear either their Fidalgo spirit wear, or purple and white to honor the grads.
Parents and other fans of the class of 2024 are welcome to come by. - 2:35 - Wednesday Early Dismissal
- 6:00 p.m. - AHS Graduation
Thursday, June 13
- 4th grade field trip to the Sparks Museum

- 12:05 - Dismissal - Last day of school, have a fabulous summer!
- Fidalgo PTA - We want to invite families to come to Fidalgo Drive-In Restaurant after school on Friday to help celebrate the end of the year. Not a fundraiser for PTA, just a fun place for us to gather, order lunch or an icy treat, and celebrate the amazing year we’ve had.
-
1:00 - 5th Grade Celebration at Washington Park. Please attend with your child, and note that this is not a school sponsored event. Questions? See information below.

Log In Your Child's Summer Reading with Real Dawgs Read
On Tuesday of this week, students who participated in "Real Dawgs Read" last summer are encouraged to wear the baseball hats or beenies they earned, or bring their UW cinch bags, to inspire the rest of the student body to do the summer reading and mail in their reading logs this year
Student Chromebooks to be Returned to Classrooms by the Last Day of School
This year, all student Chromebooks need to be turned into the student's classroom by the last day of school. Please note, this is a change from previous years where intermediate grades kept their Chromebooks over the summer.
Does Your Child's Bus Pick-Up/ Drop-Off Change Next Year?
Let Us Know!
Other Important Transportation Information
If your children's bus drop-off or pick-up transportation plans will change for the 2024-25 school year, please go into Skyward Family Access and complete a new transportation request form.
Otherwise, if your children ride the bus, and we haven't heard from you of any changes to their pick-up and drop-off locations for the 2024-25 school year, we will roll up all current information in the My Ride K-12 app as we plan for routes. In an effort to reduce transportation costs (hence the related changes to school start times), you can expect some changes to bus routes. So, even if your pick-up and drop-off locations haven't changed, please monitor your My Ride K-12 app for possible routing changes for the upcoming school year.
All new kinders needing transportation will need to complete the transportation request form in Skyward and download the My Ride K-12 app.

2024 Graduates of Anacortes School District
Will Return to Their Elementary Schools to Walk the Halls
On Wednesday, June 12 at 10:45, this year's graduates of Anacortes School District return to their elementary schools to walk the halls and be cheered on by our elementary students. This is my personal favorite of all of the wonderful graduation events in this sweet town. The graduates revisit their childhood (including going out to the playground in their caps and gowns for one last recess to swing, play 4-square, or Gaga Ball). They are enthusiastically celebrated by our elementary students, who, in-turn, are inspired to graduate themselves.
Parents, or others close to a 2024 alum who attended Fidalgo, are welcome to drop by and see the joy!
The Fun Run was a Big Success!
We had an amazing Fun Run last Friday. Thank you to our students for their great effort and attitude, to our many parent volunteers and staff who make this annual tradition possible, and to PTA for their support. Special thanks to this year's Fun Run Coordinator, Mr. Thomas, who maintained the annual Fun Run tradition, while evolving it with some changes.
