Grades 3-8 Interim Assessments Tuesday 28th
This week students will be taking their ELA interim assessments. These are a very important assessment for your students, please talk to them about their importance.
- The purpose of these interim assessments is to gauge student progress on what they have been taught so far this year. These assessments will allow us to identify strengths and weaknesses, and guide instructional decisions to enhance learning in their classrooms. The data from these assessments will allow us to monitor areas for improvement so they can be addressed in a timely manner. The data gathered helps teachers tailor their instruction to meet the individual needs of your student, allowing for a more customized and effective learning experience.
- The assessments will mirror the rigor and style of the NYSED Assessments. These end-of-year assessments can impact students placements in classes and schools. Mirroring the interim assessments to these larger, summative assessments, help us to prepare the students for these high stake assessments.
- Students do better on these assessments when their parents talk to them about the importance of the tests. Please know that your support and encouragement at home are vital for a child's success on the assessments. Please support them by making sure they get a good night's sleep, arrive to school on time and encourage them to try their best on the assessment.

Tardies (being late to school or class) and early releases (leaving school or class before the scheduled end time) can negatively impact student achievement, depending on the frequency and reasons for these occurrences.
We are here to partner with you to ensure your students are here all day, every day. We have policies and interventions in place to address chronic tardiness and early releases, aiming to support students in improving their punctuality and attendance. These measures may include counseling, parent-teacher conferences, and academic support programs. Call us if you need support.
- Tardies
- Disruption: Frequent tardies can disrupt the learning environment for late students and their classmates. It may lead to distractions and missed instructions, impacting a student's ability to grasp the material being taught.
- Missed Content: Tardy students may miss important content or announcements at the beginning of a class, which can affect their understanding of subsequent lessons.
- Habit Formation: Chronic tardiness can lead to the formation of poor habits, including time management and punctuality issues, which can have a long-term impact on a student's academic and professional success.
2. Early Releases:
- Incomplete Assignments: Early releases may lead to incomplete assignments or assessments, affecting a student's grades and overall academic performance.
- Limited Engagement: Students who frequently leave class early may not fully engage in the learning process, missing the opportunity to ask questions, clarify doubts, or benefit from additional resources provided at the end of the class.
- Missed Instruction: Leaving class early can result in missing out on critical instruction, class discussions, or assignments, hindering a student's ability to understand and retain the material.
