Blue Valley Northwest
Principal's Newsletter - March 7, 2025
Dear Husky Families,
Thank you for a great week and once again thank you for your flexibility as we navigated more winter weather on Wednesday with a 2-hour delayed start.
Good luck to our boys' and girls' basketball teams as they compete in sub-state tonight and tomorrow!
Just a reminder that Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, so our clocks will spring forward. It’s another sign that spring is near—which I think we’re all ready for! Enjoy the extra sunlight and have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Leah Vomhof
BVNW Principal

- The Lantern Festival - February 12 - the last night of Lunar New Year celebrations. Occurring on the first full moon of the lunar year, it serves as a symbol of unity and completeness. Some families will light colorful lanterns - some with riddles written on them, dance, and eat sweet rice balls or dumplings in soup.
- Maha Shivaratri - February 26 - a solemn Hindu festival that marks the “overcoming of darkness and ignorance” in life and the world. Some families will celebrate by chanting prayers to the god Shiva, fasting, and meditating on virtues of honesty, charity, and forgiveness.

Attendance & Late to School Reminders
A student’s attendance is essential to learning—learning that includes not only factual subject matter but also attendance habits, work habits, attitudes, and ideals. Research shows that educational achievement is directly related to attendance.
This is a reminder that BVNW begins class for the next two weeks at 7:35 Monday through Friday. Students are expected to be in their classroom at 7:35 when the final bell rings. We see students who continue to struggle to arrive at school on time, which causes missed class time that adds up quickly.
If students drive to school, please encourage them to leave with plenty of time to safely drive to school, park and walk in to school. If you drop your student off, please do so with enough time so that students can arrive to their class prior to the 7:35 bell that begins our school day.
Students are allowed four (4) tardies to first and second block each semester and on the fifth tardy, will receive a detention. Teachers will use the same tardy policy for class periods three-seven.
Our attendance and late to school/late to class policies are linked in our student handbook. Thank you for your help!Safety Reminders
With the nicer weather, if your student walks to school, please remind them to use the designated crosswalks and to put their phone down and be aware of their surroundings when crossing the street. We also ask all drivers to drive with caution, with phones down and aware of walkers, as they navigate the roads and parking lots around our school.
