THE OUTSIDERS SOUNDTRACK
BY: MIKAELA P.6
The Outsiders by: S.E. Hinton
It is a book about a boy, Ponyboy, and his gang who are caught up in some trouble. They all have rough, sad, emotional, happy, and adventurous times together. There is two different gang groups where Ponyboy lives, the socs and greasers. His gang are greasers. The difference between the two gangs is that the socs are more rich than the greasers. Ponyboy has two older brothers Darry, the oldest, and Sodapop, the middle child, making Ponyboy the youngest. The rest of the gang includes Johnny, Dally, Two-Bit, and Steve. They all have each others back no matter what the circumstance is. To fit the mood on this book I have created a soundtrack for it.
1. Counting Stars by:OneRepublic
In this song it says, "sitting, no more counting dollars we'll be counting stars." This relates to the Outsiders from when Ponyboy and Johnny were laying in the lot looking at the stars and Ponyboy fell asleep. As it says on page 38, "I sat up shivering. The stars had moved." Ponyboy was looking at the stars and noticed how they moved so it goes along with the song when they are looking and counting the stars.

2. HOME BY: DAUGHTRY
This song Home by Daughtry really explains Darry and Ponyboys relationship. It says, "I've not always been the best man or friend for you. But your love, remains true. And I don't know why. You always seem to give me another try." In the book it says on page 51, "I don't know... sometimes we get along okay, then all of a sudden he blows up on me or else is naggin' at me all the time." Darry and Ponyboy have fights but in the end they still love eachother.

3. LA DA DEE BY: CODY SIMPSON
The song La Da Dee by Cody Simpson really relates to when Johnny and Ponyboy ran away to the abandon church. In the song it says, "La da di la da da doo there's only me, there's only you." When they were at the church it was only the two of them and they didn't know what was going to happen next. All they knew is that they were doing it together. On page 70 it says, "I rolled over and sprang up, happy that someone was there." They are happy that they are not doing this alone, but together. Another part of the song goes, "They won't see through my disguise, right here behind my eyes, replaying in my mind." When Johnny and Ponyboy change their disguises no one will know it is them and know that they are thinking about the man that they just killed. As it says on page 71, "They'll have our descriptions in the paper. We can't fit 'em." So they end up cutting thier hair and it changes their appearances termendously because no one realizes who they are.

4. EYE OF THE TIGER
Eye Of The Tiger by Survivor represents what happened at the rumble with the Socs and Greasers. The song says, "Went the distance now I'm back on my feet. Just a man and his will to survive." In the book Ponyboy got back on his feet after the fire at the church and is fighting in the rumble. The greasers are fighting for Johnny who is on his death bed and they are willing to fight for him. They are also fighting for themselves with the will to survive. In the book on page 137 it says, "There isn't any good reason for fighting except self-defense." They will always fight that is the world they live in and they also accept the fact that they might die.

5. SOMEONE'S WATCHING OVER ME BY: HILARY DUFF
This song represents what Ponyboy is going through when Johnny dies. It says, "Found myself today oh I found myself and ran away something pulled me back the voice of reason I forgot I had." When Ponyboy found out Johnny was dead he convinced himself that Johnny wasn't dead and was wandering around the streets thinking. On page 150 it says, "I walked down the hall in a daze. Dally had taken the car and I started the long walk home in stupor.... He isn't dead, I said to myself. He isn't dead. And this time my dreaming worked. I convinced myself that he wasn't dead. I must have wandered around for hours; sometimes even out into the street, getting honked at and cussed out." Ponyboy took Johnny's death pretty hard and he didn't take it well. No one took it well.
