See your student on Tuesday morning - let's make it a great week!

Mrs. Stephanie Steinmez and Mrs. Stephanie Curitore, Chardon Middle School 7th-grade math teachers, were selected to present at the 74th Annual Conference for the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics (OCTM) on Friday, October 10, 2024, in Columbus, Ohio. The team presented their baseball project, which uses current MLB players' statistics to teach probability and statistics standards and culminates with Baseball Day. Their session was enthusiastically attended by Ohio-based middle and high school math teachers by answering baseball trivia, creating probability models based on Cleveland Guardian’s José RamÃrez’s statistics, and sharing materials.
In addition to presenting, Mrs. Steinmetz and Mrs. Curitore attended several sessions with 5th-grade teacher Beverly Mysyk to continue to enhance and extend their lessons. The trio is excited to share their new knowledge with the math department and students at CMS!
This past week was also a week to honor our hard-working Custodian Team of Mr. Paul Driscoll, Mr. Al Julian, Ms. Tammi Hokes and Ms. Molly Thomas! Check out the sweet swag that our Fourth Grade Team gave each staff member to thank them!

Upcoming CO-GAT Testing for Fourth Grade Toppers
Parents of 4th grade students,
The State of Ohio requires school districts to offer whole-grade testing to all students twice during their education to identify gifted learners. As part of this process, all 4th-grade students will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) during the window of November 4–8, 2024. The CogAT assesses overall cognitive and reasoning abilities. Based on the results, some students may undergo additional evaluation for possible gifted identification in creative thinking. After testing, individual student CogAT results will be sent home. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this assessment, please feel free to contact Linda Elegante at linda.elegante@chardonschools.org or Megan Kinney at megan.kinney@chardonschools.org.
Sincerely,

Clinic News form Ms. Jenn
Hello Toppper families,
Thank you to all the 7th grade parents who have gotten the required vaccines.
To the 6th grade parents, when entering 7th grade the state requires a meningitis and an update tetanus to be given. I have looked at the State vaccine site and will let you know soon if I do not see dates for your child just as a reminder.
Vision testing is almost done. I have mailed letters to kids who failed. Please have your child see an eye doctor and return the form that was mailed
Hearing screening is now occurring. I will also send a letter if anyone fails so you can get your child checked at their PCP before going to an ENT doctor. Sometimes just the fact of someone having congestion can make them fail as the sounds will be muffled.
Thank you
Jennifer Trittschuh RN BSN LSN
Halloween Costume Expectations
Halloween is next month and I wanted to share some expectations surrounding costumes for our school party/parade.
- Students should WEAR their costumes to school.
- Weapons of any kind are not permitted.
- Minimal make-up can be applied before school if desired. There will not be much time to apply at school. Fake blood and other scary make up is not permitted.
- Costumes should be school appropriate and need to be in line with our daily dress code.
If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact your child's teacher or the front office. Thanks so much for helping all to enjoy a great day!
Have you joined our CMS PBIS rewards yet?
During the first week of school, all families received personalized QR codes to join PBIS rewards to see your student's information as it relates to positive behavior choices in the building. If you have not joined yet, please consider doing so by scanning the code you received and signing up to receive notifications.
If you need another QR code, please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher or Ms. Paroubek to access another copy.
Thanks for partnering with us on this new system!
