FROM the PRINCIPAL
Dear Westbrook Families,
May 6th-10th is Teacher Appreciation Week, so let's shower our amazing educators with cards, pictures, or a heartfelt message on the Warm Westbrook Wishes form. We also celebrate our school nurses on May 8th – a BIG thank you to them!
Spring benchmark assessments for kindergarteners and first graders begin next week. These one-on-one sessions with teachers or a team member assess reading and math skills. This data helps tailor instruction, identify students who might need extra support, and track progress toward grade-level goals.
Mark your calendars for the first-grade choral concert on May 7th led by Mrs. Mungovan! Check the information below for specific performance times based on your child's classroom teacher. As always, please reach out if you have any questions. We're excited to celebrate and learn together during these last few weeks of school!
Friday, May 17th we will have half-day attendance for students throughout the District. Only first-grade students will attend from 9:20 AM to 12:20 PM at Westbrook. Please note the different dismissal times for our bussers and walkers. First-grade students will not need to bring lunch on half days. Our Kids’ Corner program will only be available to first-grade students from 7:00 a.m. to 9:20 a.m. Please inform your daycare providers of this variance in the schedule. Circle of Friends and Kindergarten students will NOT attend school on Friday, May 17th.
For your children,
Danielle Crandall

Celebrating History / Heritage Months - May
The month of May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, a celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States. The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. The majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.
The first official Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month - while not exactly as we celebrate today - dates back to 1977. Asian/Pacific Americans are a diverse and growing population that makes up about 7 percent of the total U.S. population.
Join us in celebrating the rich cultural diversity and the historical legacy of Asian/Pacific Americans.
