Shine in #205

CUSD #205 is kicking off “Shine in #205” for the 2023-2024 school year. The program is aimed to provide recognition for district employees who go the extra mile for students in #205. Each month there will be two staff members selected from the nominations. Parents, Guardians, Co-Workers, Community members are all welcome to nominate a CUSD

#205 staff member.

Summer workbooks, novels/picture books, and activities are coming home soon. Students can turn in completed workbooks to Mrs. Coate at the family engagement events over the summer or the first week of school for free Kastle Kreme coupons.

Steele Student Council Volunteers for Blessings in a Bag 2024

Steele Student Council put on a Spirit Day on May 8, 2024. Students and staff were encouraged to dress up as a dynamic duo to raise money for Blessings in a Bag. This organization helps over 100 of our students eat on the weekends. In addition, members of our student council helped pack the bags as well. This community service is such a valuable experience.

Our District is collaborating in our community with Knox College this summer to provide exciting opportunities to our students:

● District #205 will provide scholarships for 168 #205 students to attend Knox College’s

College 4 Kids this summer. Scholarships will be provided on a first-come, first serve

basis to students entering grades 1-8 (21 students per grade level). Knox College 4 Kids

started in 1975. It is an annual summer academic enrichment program offered by the

college. Participating students select from an array of courses provided by local

community professionals and educators. The camp runs from July 8-19th, 2024 this

year. Registration information and additional details can be found at:

deadline is June 7th, 2024. To take advantage of this opportunity, guardians must enter

“C4KCUSD” in the “Event Code” portion of registration. District #205 will not be

The carnival will happen rain or shine. If the weather is not cooperating, all of the games and activities will be held inside the school.

Principal's Award of Excellence 2024

Each year, Mrs. Coate selects two students from the 4th grade to receive the Principal's Award of Excellence. This award is given to the two students who exemplify Steele Star qualities that reflect what our school district values and what we wish for the greater school community. Several students were discussed for the award, but ultimately Mrs Coate and the 4th grade teachers felt that these two deserved. Maya, her mom, brothers and aunt, along with Jayden and his mom and sister, joined Mrs. Coate at Western Illinois University for the Student Recognition Breakfast. The event was organized by the Illinois Principals Association.
