Laurelhurst Community Update

Tomorrow is one of our biggest days here at Laurelhurst--our PTA's annual Carnival! There will be games galore, a very spooky haunted house, all kinds of delicious food and candy for sale, and amazing people-watching as kids and adults alike break out their funniest, cutest, scariest, and wildest costumes! We can't wait to see you there! Pre-sales for tickets end tonight, so if you want to save a little money and even more time, go to Konstella and pick up your tickets/wristbands now!

Tomorrow is the amazing Ms. Misi's last day with her 2nd grade class. We all wish her well as she prepares for the sweet addition of a baby lion cub to her den at home! 🍼🦁

With Ms. Misi's extended leave through the end of the school year, Ms. Peters, current 1st grade EA, will be shifting over to the 2nd grade team to fill in! We could not be more delighted. See her short bio below!

As a mom of three at Laurelhurst (Libby in 5th grade, Will in 3rd grade and Charlie in 2nd grade), I love being a part of this community!

I have worked as a first grade educational assistant at Laurelhurst for the past few years. Prior to that, I spent nine years as a classroom teacher in California and Nevada. I am so excited to be learning alongside Ms. Misi's wonderful second grade crew this year.

By now, you should have signed up with your K-5 student's teacher for a conference time. If you have not, or you are unsure where to go to do so, please reach out to your student's teacher. We encourage all families to take the time to meet with their student's core teacher, and we also welcome parents and guardians to meet with your student's specials teachers.

On conference days, you'll have the opportunity to stop by, meet those teachers, and learn more about our specials programming:

• Library with Ms. Lang and Music Room (Room 25) with Ms. Blythe: 8:15am-12; 12:45-3:45; 4:50-6:30pm on both days
• Gym w/ Mr. Lewis & Ms. Martin and Art Room (Room 23) w/ Ms. DY: 8:15-12; 4:50-7:45pm on both days

Middle School Conferences will be open for sign ups next week! Middle school families, please keep an eye out for a Remind message with a link for signups. This year we will continue to do "arena style" conferences with our middle school teachers. Each family will have an opportunity to meet with every one of their teachers at the in-person arena conferences that will be held in the gym. There will also be the opportunity for families to meet with their teachers virtual--up to two teacher per student.

For planning purposes, note that conferences take place on Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week. In-person sessions will be held from 8:05am-12:00pm and 4:50pm-7:45pm; families sign up for a one-hour time slots. Virtual conferences will take place between 12:45pm and 3:45pm, in 10-minute sessions.

Friendly reminder from your Roar for Reading committee that reading trackers/booklets (plus any checks or cash) are due no later than TOMORROW, Friday October 25th!

Please be sure your student turns theirs in to their teacher (or at the front office). These booklets will be used to determine prizes! 🏅

We will not be publishing our regular weekend Community Update on Sunday - this is it until Sunday, November 4th. We'll mark the end of the quarter with a Middle School assembly on 10/30 and a K-5 assembly on 10/31, and we hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween. There is no school on 11/1, we'll gain an hour (fall back!) on 11/3, and there is no school on 11/4! Enjoy these last days of this busy October, and we'll catch up in November!

Join us in congratulating our very own Ms. Truong on her performance at the USTA League Championships last week! Her team finished 12th nationwide!! We are so proud!
