What is your favorite thing about working at SC as a teacher?
One of my favorite things is the way that Salish Coast feels like an extension of a larger community. It's really beautiful to be so closely connected to students, parents, and coworkers both inside and outside of school, and being able to go to events around town and recognize so many people. Having grown up in areas that can be larger and more isolating, it's a joy knowing those around you and being known on a deeper level.
Where are you originally from?
I am originally from Riverside, in Southern California, which is essentially an exurb of Los Angeles. If you ever visit, be sure to go to the Citrus Heritage Park ... best oranges you will ever eat!
What is on your bucket list?
To be honest, I don't have a bucket list. I'm a big believer in living in the moment, and being grateful for whatever opportunities life sends your way. I suppose my real bucket list is to enjoy life, make excellent friends, and do something meaningful with my time here on Earth. Everything else is just icing on the cake.
What is a fun fact about you?
I'm currently learning how to speak Latin! Non utile, sed iocus est!
Dr. Emily Gustafson, School Psychologist
What is your favorite thing about working at SC as aschool psych?
I love that I get to work equally with teachers/staff, students, and families in my role. The support and commitment of both the teachers and families in this community to help our students thrive has blown me away. I have loved helping our school grow and strengthen our Multi Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for both academics and behavior to help support all of our students since I've been here. This year I get the added bonus of catching glimpses of my own child thriving in the new Transitional Kindergarten classroom.
Where are you originally from?
I grew up in Silver Spring Maryland, right outside of DC. I went off to college in MA, moved into DC afterwards for a few years, and then moved back into MD for grad school. I was living in Annapolis, another waterfront/maritime focused community directly before moving here 11 years ago. As much as I've enjoyed each place I've lived, Port Townsend is my favorite.
What is on your bucket list?
I traveled a ton earlier in my life and would love to get back to it as a family now that my son is a bit older. Any destination with some adventure and beautiful scenery would be great!
What is a fun fact about you?
I am also a potter and have been throwing pottery on the wheel since I was about 12. I have made most of the dishes in our house. Having a 5 year old means I'm not throwing much lately but I try to get back to the studio when I can!
Mr. Rob Lavoto, Paraeducator
What is your favorite thing about working at SC as a teacher?
I like the students and faculty I work with.
Where are you originally from?
Oceanside CA.
What is on your bucket list?
I'd like to hike the pacific crest trail.
What is a fun fact about you?
I've been skydiving three times
