PARKER WEEKLY BULLETIN
Week of 5-5-2025
Message from Principal Blagg
Good afternoon Parker Families:
It was a great week at Parker as we all returned from Spring Break. The weather has turned warmer, everything is blooming, and the days are longer. The students continue to work hard and build independent skills as we head for the home stretch of the year. We have another busy week ahead of us and some exciting events with which to look forward.
MCAS
Our fifth-grade students will be taking the Science portion of MCAS on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Please encourage your child to get a good night sleep and eat a healthy breakfast so that they are primed to do their very best.
5th and 6th Grade Socials - May 9 and May 16 - 2:45-4:00 PM
Our amazing PTO is sponsoring our Spring Socials over the next few weeks with our fifth grade social on Friday May 9 and our sixth-grade social occurring on Friday May 16. These socials are a great opportunity for the kids to be kids! They will dance, play games in the gym, and play board games in the hallway. We will have a DJ and the kids can celebrate in a fun and safe environment. We ask that all students are picked up promptly out back by 4pm. Permission slips will be sent out on Monday, and a parent volunteer sign up can be found below. There is no charge for this event. Please encourage your child to attend!
WE ARE PARKER - Wednesday, June 11 - 5-8 PM - SAVE THE DATE!!!!!
We are excited to announce a school wide community celebration to culminate our year at Parker Middle School on Wednesday June 11 from 5-8 PM. Working in conjunction with our Parker School Council made up of parents and staff members, we have planned a fun and family friendly event that will celebrate all of the wonderful strengths, interests, and personalities present in our community. There will be a variety of great activates that appeal to the diverse interests inherent in our school community including:
A variety of food trucks representing multiple ethnic foods
A cabaret show highlighting our talented actors and performers (sign up below)
A badminton tournament
An arts show exhibit and interactive maker space for children to create art
Outside yard games and activities
There is no charge for the event except for any food purchased at the food trucks. We hope to start a new tradition here at Parker with this event and hope to see you all there. Families are encouraged to drop in when they are able over the three hours. More information and a flyer can be seen below.
Social Emotional Learning - Second Step
We will continue our social emotional curriculum next week with our fifth grade students continuing their unit on Empathy and Kindness while our sixth grade students will continue their unit on Thoughts, Emotions, and Decisions.
Grade 5 - Extension activity culminating the unit
Grade 6 - How Emotions Affect Your Decisions
Summary: In this week’s lesson, your child will analyze how strong emotions can influence their decision-making abilities, as well as how those decisions can affect their relationships.
Question: Ask your child what sorts of things trigger strong emotions in them. Ask them how you can show support when those things happen.
Have a great weekend everyone. Please reach out if you need support.
Warm Regards,
Josh
