December 2024 NRESC Updates from Dr. Vancheri

Happy Holidays from the Vancheri Family!

As we recap December and look forward to 2025, I would like to wish you and your family a safe, happy, and restful holiday season! Here's to a great 2024 and an even better 2025! Thank you for all that you do for the NRESC! It is our privilege to serve!

I present this month's happenings to you via a revised version of the "12 Days of Christmas", NRESC Style!

The 12 Days of NRESC Holidays!

Day 12: A Growing Transportation Department

The NRESC is very proud to welcome Mr. Teodoro Valera, our very first bus driver, to go along with our very first bus! We look forward to growing our fleet!

Day 11: The Commission's Holiday Party at Bask46

It was a fantastic NRESC staff holiday party on December 17 at Bask46 in Woodland Park. We celebrated with over 40 staff members in attendance. I enjoyed taking my traditional "Superintendent Selfies."

Day 10: Second Home Holiday Shopping

The Community-Based Instruction (CBI) outing to Paramus Park Mall was a wonderful opportunity for participants to develop and practice essential life skills in a real-world setting. Activities like holiday shopping and dining out not only help reinforce skills such as budgeting, decision-making, and social interactions, but they also contribute to building confidence and independence. These outings are valuable for promoting inclusion and providing participants with meaningful, enjoyable experiences that enhance both personal growth and practical knowledge.

Day 9: Bringing Speech to Life in Paterson

Ms. Otero brought speech to life at Paterson School #20! Students worked on language development, problem solving, and following directions all through this yummy cooking activity.

Day 8: Gingerbread Men at Phoenix

The Phoenix team thrives on creative themes, such as our Gingerbread Unit! Students explored math, language arts, science, and social studies through an engaging winter topic. They crafted ornaments, counted cookies, read festive stories, and designed their own snowmen, seamlessly blending fun and learning across subjects.

Day 7: Knights of Columbus Donation

Second Home Day Hab is thankful for the monetary donation received from the St. James Knights of Columbus (Council #6574 in Totowa). Thank you to Knights Ted Kopec & Mark Monteyne for attending. And thank you to Nicky & Anthony of Second Home for accepting the donation!

Day 6: Phoenix Gift of Giving

The Phoenix staff and students have been excited to spread holiday cheer across our classrooms!

Day 5: Technology Fixing the Networks.. And Checking Them Twice

Todd Buggeln from the NRESC Tech Team fine-tunes the new AV panel at High Mountain School in North Haledon! The North Haledon School District's new AV system is a game-changer, providing an amazing presentation platform for middle schoolers.

Day 4: Santa Visited Our New Location

Santa Claus visited our new daycare center in Pompton Lakes, which is scheduled to open on January 6 (at the former site of Little Lamb Daycare). Santa is very excited that the NRESC is TRIPLING its daycare classrooms in Pompton Lakes with the Ramapo Avenue Learning Center.

Day 3: Hope Nurtured Heart

Hope Academy is excited to embark on our journey with the Nurtured Heart Approach, a relationship-focused method designed to help students build inner wealth and thrive emotionally and academically. This approach emphasizes recognizing and celebrating students’ strengths, setting clear boundaries, and fostering positive connections. By implementing these principles, we aim to create a supportive and empowering environment where every student feels valued, capable, and inspired to succeed. Together, we are the greatness of hope.

Day 2: Santa Visited Second Home

Santa visited Second Home in Totowa and our participants had a blast taking pictures with St. Nick!

Day 1: Santa Visited Our Daycare Centers!

Santa Claus came to town!!! Santa visited our childcare centers in Pompton Lakes and, as always, Dr. Vancheri was not around to see Jolly Old St. Nick!

January 6: Opening Day for our new daycare location in Pompton Lakes, Ramapo Avenue Learning Center.
January 20: NRESC central office, schools, and programs are CLOSED (Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day).
January 31: Early Dismissal for Students at Hope, Phoenix, and Second Home. Professional Development for staff at these programs in the afternoon.
