The Heather Hill PTO is selling spirit wear! Please note the deadline is September 2nd by 11:59 pm. See below for ways to order!
Attendance is Important!
We have completed another great week of learning at Heather Hill! We want to encourage all of our scholars to come to school each day. Our attendance numbers for the week are listed below. We understand that when children are sick, they should stay home. Students should be fever free for 24 hours before coming to school. Other symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and severe cough should be reviewed with medical professionals. If students are not ill, we expect our Hornets will join us daily for learning. We look forward to seeing them every day and learning together!
Heather Hill: 87.4% of students were present for this week of school!
Kindergarten: 4.7% were absent
First Grade: 6.9% were absent
Second Grade: 7.9% were absent
Third Grade: 4.4% were absent
Fourth Grade: 6.03% were absent
Fifth Grade: 9.8% were absent
We have a desired percentage of 93% of our students to be present for the week, which means we were short of meeting our goal. Together we can and will achieve the goal here at the Hive!
Calling All Volunteers for the Hidden Gem Half Marathon!
The Hidden Gem Half Marathon is being held for its 5th year on Saturday, 9/7, from 7:00-9:00 am. This is a wonderful community event that runs through the Heather Hill neighborhood. John Yast is a local resident that organizes a water and sports drink refreshment table, in partnership with the Heather Hill staff. The table is located just north of the HH parking lot exit.
Mr. Yast is looking for volunteers to help support the set-up and passing out of beverages. Volunteers should arrive by 6:15 am to avoid road closures. We will stay until the last runners come through, approximately 10:30 am. Volunteers may park in the Heather Hill parking lot. Or, if there is a need to leave earlier, please park on Scott Crescent and take Douglas Avenue to exit north. Older children (4th grade +) are welcome to participate with adult supervision, as well. Please email Mr. Yast at jryast@comcast.net before 9/7 if interested in volunteering. Thank you for considering!
Student Spotlight
Laila was able to meet and greet, as well as laugh, with our state Senator Michael E Hastings! Congratulations, Laila!
Do you have a student accomplishment you'd like to celebrate with the Heather Hill community? Please email Principal Carol Humm at chumm@sd161.org and include a description and picture of only your student. We love to celebrate students' accomplishments!
Heather Hill Recess
Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders are currently having recess in the south field. This is an extra layer of precaution while construction from the Village of Flossmoor is completed on the Detention Basin and the permanent fencing is placed. In addition, volunteers from Flossmoor Village Hall have been and will be present during recess to ensure students stay away from the fencing.
We continue to review two PBIS Cool Tools to help keep students safe. Below are the two tools so that you can discuss and reinforce these with your children at home. Additionally, we are using cones to show students safe boundaries for play with recess equipment. We will continue to get updates from the Village to share as the work on the Basin progresses. If you have questions about the Detention Basin, please feel free to reach out to John Brunke, the Flossmoor Director of Public Works at jbrunke@flossmoor.org. If you have any questions about recess, please feel free to reach out to Principal Humm (chumm@sd161.org) or Assistant Principal Small (csmall@sd161.org). Thank you!
