Principal Weekly Update to Caregivers
Principal Lamour Update
Dear Luce Caregivers,
I hope you had a great weekend! Last week was wonderful for our community, highlighted by our winter SHINE assembly and many learning opportunities across grades K-5. Because of extremely cold weather, we held recess indoors for most of the week. While temperatures are now rising, we’ve noticed that many students are not wearing winter jackets. Please ensure your child comes prepared for outdoor recess with a suitable jacket and any additional winter gear needed to stay warm.
New Crossing Guard at Sherman & Prospect
I am excited to share that, thanks to the advocacy of Luce parents and the support of Chief Rafferty, the CPD, and Superintendent Folan, we now have a crossing guard stationed at Sherman and Prospect St. as of this past Friday. The Luce community is deeply grateful for this support.
Thank you for helping keep our students safe and comfortable!
Your Help Is Needed To Improve Our Parking Lot During Arrival & Dismissal
We continue to notice unsafe practices during drop-off and pick-up times. Our priority is to ensure a safe environment for all, especially for our students. As a result, we ask that you refrain from parking in the fire lane at the entrance of the driveway or near the stop sign in the parking lot.

School Safety Update
To enhance the safety of our students, your children, and our staff, we ask for your cooperation with a few important procedures:
Please Do Not Hold Doors Open: You may have noticed new signs at our entrances requesting that visitors do not hold doors open for others. Please refrain from doing so, as it helps maintain building security.
Early Dismissals: If you are picking up your child early, they will meet you at the front doors for dismissal.
Picking Up a Sick Child: If your child is feeling unwell, please proceed to the nurse's office for pick-up.
We appreciate your continued support in keeping our school community safe.

Nurse Bonner's Nifty Notes
We are seeing Nosebleeds this time of year. Help prevent it before they begin!
How to help prevent a nosebleed:
- Run a cool mist humidifier in the bedroom. Make sure to clean it weekly to prevent any bacteria from growing
- Keep the nails short to prevent injuries from nose-picking and remind kids to blow their nose gently
- Keep the inside of the nose moist. You can use a saline nasal spray or put a dab of petroleum jelly around the opening of the nose daily
- Protect the nose especially during sports and other activities with athletic equipment to prevent injury to the nose
- Don't smoke in the home or around your child
How to treat a nosebleed?
- Stay calm
- Have the child sit up and lean forward. You want to avoid leaning the head backwards so that they do not swallow any blood
- Gently pinch the nostrils and apply pressure toward the back of the nose for 5-10 min. Do not stuff tissues in the nose
- You can apply a cold compress to the bridge of the nose or the back of the neck to help constrict the blood vessels

CHS Cultural Night
“Good morning/afternoon/evening families!
On January 17th, the Canton High School will be hosting a Cultural Heritage Night, similar to how the Galvin Middle School runs it. This event will take place from 4:30-6:30pm in the Cafeteria, and it is open to the community. It will be Potluck style, where attendees can have the choice of whether or not they would like to provide a dish from their culture.
We created this event with the hope of spreading the different cultures within Canton around the community. Although this may not be as large as the GMS’s, it will include live performances from CHS students, numerous different types of foods, and time to socialize!
It would be greatly appreciated if you were able to contribute and provide a dish from your culture to make this event successful! Anything and everything counts.
If you are interested in attending and bringing your family along with you, please fill out this form!

We hope to see you there!”
