Kott's Korner
It was another exciting week at Davisburg! Please be sure to ask your child what they are working on. What goals have they set for themselves and how are they progressing? You might be surprised with what they can tell you about their learning.
This is the time of year that absences can start to add up. Missing just two days of school a month leads to missing 10% of the school year or being chronically absent. The academic impact of missing that much school is the same, no matter what grade or the reason for the absence. Of course when your child is ill, please keep them home to rest. However, if they are well enough to participate and learn, please send them to school. Every day matters!
Through these Winter months, please let us know if we can support you in any way.
Truly,
Denise Kott

Parent Outreach Program Newsletter
Good afternoon Holly Area Schools families,
Today, we want to share with you our February Newsletter! This month, we focus on prioritizing mental health, the importance of sleep for adolescents, and practical strategies help manage difficult emotions as adults - so we can help our children do the same. Additionally, we explore how household chores can help build career readiness skills at any age.
We would love to connect with you at our February events, including the February Parent Cafe at Holly Elementary, where we will discuss early literacy development with Debbie Hernan from the Holly Township Library. For more details, please check out the event section of our newsletter.
Thank you for being such an important part of our school community!
Best,
Trisha Crotteau, Cheryl Price, and Sydney Sinclair

Leader in Me & Core Competencies
Social awareness is the ability to recognize and understand the emotions, perspectives, and needs of others. Social awareness comprises several components, including empathy, perspective-taking, respect, and inclusivity. It involves understanding and valuing diversity, recognizing social cues, and adapting one’s behavior accordingly. Developing social awareness skills in students has many benefits. It enhances communication skills, promotes teamwork and collaboration, and fosters a sense of belonging and acceptance. It also helps students manage conflicts and build positive relationships, leading to improved overall well-being.
Ideas to try at home:
You can teach social skills by modeling them. You can show kids how to take turns and see things from others' perspectives. You can also teach kids social skills through books, TV or movies by talking to them about how the characters interact and communicate with each other. If you need more ideas, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
