Happy first week of school, Trailblazers! I've been waiting for this week.

I love it when teachers and staff come back to prepare for the school year. The energy in the building begins to build, but the energy level is amped up even more when the classrooms are full!

We praise God for the 530 students who are walking our halls, engaging God's Word, discovering His creation, and learning who they are in Him. The look of wonder on their faces as they encounter new things and the unbridled laughter that they share with friends is an amazing experience we get to be a part of every day. It is a sweet privilege to watch their stories unfold.

The story that God has been weaving at SCCS for over a century is something for which I have a growing appreciation. God has been faithful to SCCS for 120 years. I've already heard stories from folks who have been a part of the SCCS family for generations, and I look forward to meeting more people and hearing more stories.

I am thankful that our Creator saw fit to put us in communities with other believers, and we are especially grateful to be a part of the SCCS community. We covet your prayers as we start the 120th school year at SCCS. Thank you for your support, and thanks for choosing us to be your educational partner.

What a beautiful morning on Friday to welcome our students into a new school year!

Join us in praying for all our uniquely-designed students and our servant-hearted faculty, staff, administration, and trustees, as together, we LEARN and LIVE God's Story!

Ephesians 3: 16-21

"I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God."

And this is our Storyline verse for the 2024-25 school year:

"Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus THROUGHOUT ALL GENERATIONS, forever and ever! Amen."

Today (Wednesday, Aug. 28) we will celebrate the beginning of the year during our Welcome Chapel at 1:35 in the gym. Parents are welcome to join us for a time of worship!

We will begin our Storyline Chapels on Wednesday, Sept. 4. These chapels take place the first Wednesday of every month and parents are welcome to attend.

We welcome these new faculty and staff to SCCS! We are grateful they have chosen to serve at SCCS!

• There will be no school on Monday, Sept. 2 for Labor Day.
• Each Wednesday, SCCS dismisses at 2:05 for teacher professional development.
• Students may ride a different bus for daycare purpose only. Parents must write a note, email or call the office to get a bus pass for your child. If you need to contact the transportation director for any reason, call 722-2481.
• Please make sure your child knows their after school plans before they leave home in the morning! Thank you!

School pictures will be taken by Danielle Ann Photography today, August 28 (Grades TK, 1, 3, 5, 7) and tomorrow, August 29 (Grades K, 2, 4, 6, 8).

THIS FRIDAY, AUGUST 30, we will be running the alternate bus route in the afternoon due to the public school's early dismissal. This happens on 8 Fridays during this school year. These Fridays are: Aug. 30, Sept. 20, Oct. 25, Nov. 22, Jan. 10, Feb. 28, Apr. 4, May 16.

Make plans to participate in the Lorna Moss Bike to School Day THIS Friday, August 30!

This is the 3rd annual community-wide event that celebrates the life and legacy of Lorna Moss, who inspired generations to live active, healthy lives.

There are 4 chaperoned bike bus locations for kids who want to commute together.

Meet at one of these locations at 7:30am. Bike buses depart for school at 7:45am.

• Heritage Village (north parking lot)
• Faith Christian Reformed Church (north parking lot)
• All Seasons Center (outside main entrance)
• New Life Church (NE parking lot)

Participating students will receive a high quality cycling bell when they arrive at school! The forecast says it will be a beautiful morning to Bike to School!

Please remind your students to use crosswalks and the importance of being aware of their surroundings as they bike to school.

We celebrate “Trailblazer Tuesdays” every week - a fun day for everyone to wear their Trailblazer gear (but students are welcome to wear their Trailblazer gear ANY day!).

We only offer Trailblazer apparel one time each school year, so be sure to think ahead to Christmas & birthday gifts… and share the link with grandparents!

Reminder to Parents: Due to the severity of some children with peanut or any other nut allergies, please do not send food containing nuts to school (for example, peanut butter, some granola bars, etc.). If you would like to send a treat for your child's classmates, feel free to check with your child's teacher. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our children safe!

• We will continue to use Bloomz as our school communication tool. Bloomz is our main method of communication throughout the school year, so we ask that all parents view the training below and become comfortable with the tool. Bloomz has made many enhancements this summer. Parents can find a training for Bloomz at https://www.siouxcenterchristian.com/currentfamilies/bloomz.cfm.
• Parents should have received an invitation to join your child's class; please accept the invitation. If you are having difficulty joining that class, please contact the homeroom teacher or the office.

• You can decide how you receive notifications from Bloomz. In order to adjust your notifications settings, follow these directions:

  • Click on the left menu tray via Bloomz App or Click on the Setting Wheel in the left panel via desktop
  • Click on Settings (Wheel icon)
  • Click on Account Settings
  • Click on Notifications
  • Choose how you want to be notified: email, text, app and voicemail (when sent as voice mail)
  • Toggle on or off what you want notifications regarding
• NOTE: All communication will be via Bloomz starting September 3.

All students have the opportunity to take advantage of the Sack Pack Program. This program provides free food items in a “sack” each Friday to assist families who are struggling to make ends meet. Nurse Jenny discretely distributes the sacks each week. If your student(s) participated in this program last year, they will automatically be re-enrolled this year. If you no longer wish to participate, contact Nurse Jenny. If you would like to join the program, just email Nurse Jenny at jmeyer@siouxcenterchristian.com.

• You can find the lunch and dishwashing schedule here.
• If you would like to eat lunch with your child, please contact the school 24 hours in advance of when you would like to eat. The cost for a lunch is $5.00 and can be paid as you go through the lunch line. Thank you!

Every year, our retired faculty and staff gather together near the first day of school to visit and reminisce. Last Thursday, seventeen former SCCS teachers and staff met at school to walk through all our spaces - old and new - remembering their days here and seeing all the spaces where our current faculty and staff continue their legacy of training God's kids in His Way. They saw our remodeled kitchen (done in 2023), our refreshed library (done this summer) and also toured the future Blazer Center, under construction. Head of school, Paul Brenner, and Director of Development, Paul Ross, led the tour, briefly sharing an update on school and thanking them for impact they had on MANY students' lives as they served God at SCCS. They then gathered at Casey's Bakery to celebrate their combined 399 years of service to SCCS!

We THANK YOU ALL for your faithfulness in training God's kids... it is still blessing many lives today!

We are always in need of more quality substitute teachers and paras. We're looking for individuals who enjoy working with children, can follow instructions provided, and can be flexible with responsibilities. Responsibilities depend on the needs, but could range from kindergarten all the way to 8th grade, full or partial days, and could be classroom teacher or paraprofessional. The City of Sioux Center is seeking to hire a full-time School Resource Officer who will work in Sioux Center Christian School, maintaining a positive presence on campus during regular school hours, handling situations on campus, while fulfilling additional roles such as teacher, counselor, and mentor.
