Irish Gifted Academy
Week of January 29th, 2023
From the Desk of Mrs. Methvin
Greetings IGA Family,
This week, our IGA Reimagineers have been busy extending their vocabulary, exploring numerals and mathematical operations, learning to read, and reading to learn. Our week ended with an exciting House Day, full of fun and knowledge. Students competed in academic games for math, ELA, science, and social studies.
On Friday, there was a little extra excitement for Mr. Hinz’s second grade class. Our Lead Learner, Dr. Fred Williams, shared his love of literacy by reading The Turnip by Jan Brett. The students also participated in a turnip root taste test presented by Ms. Pamela Jones and DCS Nutrition Department. We appreciate everyone who played a part to provide this memorable literacy experience for our second grade students.
Friday also served as a Snow Day House Day for our students! Students competed in "ice skating" and snowball relay while also enjoying a freeze dance and snowcones. Thank you to Mrs. Devaney, our Family Support Specialist, for making this possible! We also had Mr. Joseph Sumner come and speak to our students in grades 5-8 regarding artifacts and the history of Georgia. This will help our students continue to prepare for our "A Walk Through Georgia" museum exhibit later this year.
Our Character Trait for the month of January is Friendly. The January Students of the Month were chosen based on that character trait. The Students of the Month for January are as follows: Israel Doyle (Pre-K), Josiah Kates (Kindergarten), Javen Washington (1st Grade), Owen King (2nd Grade), Kaden Johnson (3rd Grade), London Culver (4th Grade). Congratulations!!! Parents are invited to eat lunch with the Students of the Month on Friday, February 3rd. Our Character Trait for February is Reliable.
Rising 9th graders and families, please be reminded that there will be an information day on Sunday, February starting at 3:00 p.m. at our high school auditorium. Please see the flyer below for additional information.
Please remember that teachers will be contacting parents to set up Parent-Teacher Conferences to review data and discuss academic and behavioral progress. Our goal is 100% participation for each grade level! I encourage all of our parents to become active members of our program and remember to visit our website and social media platforms regularly for current news and upcoming events. If you have any questions or concerns, please call 478-353-8490.
