Big T Weekly
September 13, 2024
A Message From the Principal
Dear Big T Families,
The Big T community is not only busy learning, but also staying active. Thanks to Chelsi Woodcox, the 100 Mile Club has returned to Big T! This past Wednesday, we had 31 students who collectively have already run 55 miles (in one morning). This was the first meeting of the running club with many more to come. So, if you would still like to participate, see the flyer in this newsletter with more information.
Our PTA is busy planning for our signature event, the Chili Supper and Silent Auction on Saturday, November 4th.. If you missed the planning meeting this week, please be on the lookout for other meetings and ways you can be involved. This is a tradition of 73 years that serves not only as a fundraiser, but a community event. It is a must do and something you will not want to miss.
As the saying goes…”it takes a village” and for us, it is a community. We are #BigTStrong and we are grateful for all of the support.
Hope to see you all next Friday (9/20) at the movie night featuring Kung Fu Panda 4 and free Kona Ice! All of this fun begins at 6 PM on the black top.
We appreciate you!
Sarah Walgast
Principal
TEEC: Are you an adult family, staff, or student member of the TSD Community who is interested in learning about how TSD addresses equity, diversity, and inclusion? If so, sign-up to join the TSD Educational Equity Council (TEEC)! We will host quarterly meetings this school year to increase knowledge of the equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) work throughout TSD.
We are seeking broad and diverse community participation to help us move our work forward in alignment with the TSD Strategic Plan and TSD Board Policies related to Educational Equity (Policy ADB), Equal Educational Opportunities (Policy JB), and Non-Discrimination/Equal Opportunity (Policy AC).
The first meeting of the Thompson Educational Equity Council (TEEC) will be held on October 24, 4:30-5:30 p.m. If you or your TSD student are interested in attending, please complete the sign-up form. We will have pizza!

The Big T Family Family Movie Night is one week away! Get ready for some free Kona Ice, Kung Fu Panda 4 on the big screen and a beautiful fall-ish night.
Three quick, but important reminders:
- This is a family event, and families are responsible for their children during the event. There is no supervision provided by Big T staff or PTA. Thanks!
- Bring your camping chairs and blankets as this is an outdoor movie on the upper playground.
- Kona Ice & Playtime is 6-7ish, and the movie will start at dark/7:15ish.
Nature Nook Help Needed
Big T is getting our nature nook cleaned up and reset and we need your help! . We are planning a work day for October 5th from 9am-12pm. We would love to have you there!
Scouting
We are inviting everyone to sign up for and join scouts over at Namaqua Elementary. If you like hiking, swimming, camping, archery, climbing, adventuring in the outdoors, or have always wanted to try it, then come join us in the Scouts. It is for both Boys and Girls and for all ages and we have a sign-up night for all students next Thursday the October 3rd at 6pm after school. Make sure to tell your parents and come join us for an evening of games and activities. Again, that is next Thursday, over at Namaqua Elementary, after school at 6pm. We look forward to seeing you all there.
Please be sure to complete your Annual Family Check-In for this school year
Have you updated your Annual Family Check-in (AFC)? Are you receiving communication via phone, text and email? Pick your preference while you review your Annual Family Check-in! The AFC is required for ALL current students in Thompson School District. Families are required to have a parent or guardian in the current student’s primary household review and sign permission forms and update (if needed) the student’s household information, emergency contacts, and health information. Annual Family Check-In is located in the Parent Portal Account. For assistance, please contact Portal@TSD.org.
Messages From The Office
* When your student is absent it is a good idea to reach out to their teacher to get work to do at home. However, still call the attendance line or email the office to excuse the absence. Teachers are busy and may not have time to let the office know that the absence was excused through them.
You can now excuse the absence through the parent portal if that is more convenient for you.
* If your student is absent due to an appointment, please get a medical note from the clinic and send it to the front office. Medical appointments with a note are the only absences the state of Colorado considers as excused for their count purposes.
* Remember, if you need to change how your student normally goes home please call or email the office before 2:30 PM. Stacey.faykosh@tsd.org or 970-613-5600
* Please remember that toys are to remain at home. They can be a distraction in the classroom and there are tears if the toy disappears.
**Small lost and found items are usually kept at the office.
