On Thursday and Friday (April 14-15), students will not be in school. On Thursday, all BCSC staff members will participate in a full day of professional development. On Friday, all students and staff will have the holiday off for Good Friday. We will all be back on Monday, April 18.

Governor Eric J. Holcomb and the Indiana Department of Education announced this week the four members of the 2022 Governor’s STEM Team, which honors outstanding high school students for their exceptional efforts and accomplishments in science, technology, engineering or math.

“Just as careers in science, technology, engineering and math are continuing to grow rapidly across Indiana, so is the innovation led in Indiana classrooms,” said Gov. Holcomb. “The students selected this year for our STEM Team represent the next generation of Hoosier innovators, as they’re each already using their scientific and technical knowledge to make an incredible impact in their communities.”

In addition to being selected as a member of the Governor’s STEM Team, each student receives a $1,000 scholarship deposit into an Indiana CollegeChoice 529 Direct Savings plan, administered by Treasurer of State Kelly Mitchell, and a letterman jacket identifying them as members of the Governor’s STEM Team.

“These students represent what is possible when doors of opportunity are opened to explore, engage and experience high-demand STEM fields across all grades,” said Dr. Katie Jenner, Indiana Secretary of Education. “The newest members of the Governor’s STEM team are already using their skills to make an enduring impact in their communities, and I’m confident this impact will only continue to grow as they embark on their next steps.”

Representing the Math category is Columbus North High School senior Matthew Liu.

Throughout high school, Matthew has taken three dual credit mathematics courses at Ball State University and several others outside of the STEM field. His research experience while in high school includes serving as a research assistant at the Morehouse School of Medicine and completing his first authored paper while interning at Pioneer Academics Research. He is fascinated by the integration of math and science and looks forward to continuing to conduct research on complicated scientific problems. This fall, Matthew plans to study chemistry.

In addition to Liu and three other members selected for the Governor’s STEM Team, two Columbus North students received honorable mentions: Rishi Rao (Science) and Evan Carr (Engineering).

At Monday night's School Board meeting, 20 BCSC Teacher of the Year nominees were recognized and highlighted for their excellence in the classroom. One of these teachers will now be selected to represent our school district at the state level for the Indiana Teacher of The Year. i-CARE Summer Break enrollment starts on April 4 and ends on April 29, 2022.

When: May 26 – July 29, 6:30 am to 6:00 pm (excluding May 30 and July 4)

No school or break care on May 23-25, August 1-3

Where: Smith Elementary, 4505 Waycross Dr., Columbus, IN 47201 (812) 374-2338

Price: Full Time care per week is $100.00 for the first child, $25.00 per add’l sibling.

Drop In care is $25.00 a day for the first child and $5.00 per add’l sibling.

How:

1. Go to bcscschools.org, click the Programs tab, click i-CARE and click the link to enroll your child.

2. If you have an existing parent portal account, log in. If you do not have an account, click on ‘New Customers Open Account’, to create an account.

3. Register your child for the activity “Summer Break 2022” and review your child’s information. There is NO bus transportation during break care.

4. If your child is attending Full Time or Drop-In, you will enroll them according to your needs. You will be charged according to what you enroll your child/children in, whether they attend or not.

5. E-mail Anna Villa (Site Coordinator for break) at villaa@bcsc.k12.in.us to inform her if your child has any specific medical, dietary, or activity restrictions.

**Enrollment starts on April 4, 2022 and ends on April 29, 2022.**

No enrollment changes can be made after April 29, 2022. The only change that can be made is if you withdraw your child completely from Summer Break, which requires a two week notice in writing.

Near the conclusion of each school year, the Bartholomew Consolidated School

Foundation (BCSF) acknowledges a deserving educator from the Bartholomew Consolidated

School Corporation (BCSC). The “Good, Better, Best” recognition – awarded in honor of two

BCSC Hall of Fame, long-time educators (Ross Wallace and Chuck Grimes) – goes to a BCSC

employee that has gone “above and beyond” and “outside the box” in their passionate attempt

to make education as positive and memorable of an experience as possible for the students

they serve. Our hope is that proceeds from this race will continue to pay tribute to the legacy

of not only Mr. Wallace/Mr. Grimes and this award’s recipients, but also draw attention to

deserving educators everywhere for a long time to come.

Did you know that over 11% of students at BCSC are emergent multilinguals? As part of Indiana's state requirements, these students will be taking the annual WIDA Access for ELLs during the months of January and February to assess their academic English language proficiency.
