Bridget Schaumann - How to be a kick-ass librarian

The crux of any librarian's job is to make a difference to the teaching and learning in the school. To provide support for it, to provide resources which support the curriculum and to provide a place which welcomes learners and embraces their new ways of learning. Bridget talks about becoming a kick-ass librarian - getting out of your office, being in the library and being the librarian your teachers and students need you to be. Kick-ass librarians love to share, so there will be audience participation!

Lisa Salter - Books that hook, and new fiction to tempt and extend your readers

They come into the library and challenge you. They ‘hate’ reading. What can you do? What book do you use to try to hook them? Where can you look for support? What if the problem is ability rather than interest? Tried and true suggestions from New Zealand school librarians. Great ideas on where to find ‘what next’ and lists to support you. Books to tempt and extend their reading experiences.


In this session we will look at books and suggestions from Primary through to Year 13, with a focus on those difficult transition Years 6–9.

Making professional reading an every-day part of your work can help in so many ways - you'll find lots of fresh ideas, inspiring people, great links, awesome book reviews, and so much more.
