From the Superintendent
Dear Aquin Families,
This year there is a bittersweet ending to our school year. It has been a year full of highs and lows and many great memories. We’re sad to see our 12th graders graduate but are so proud and happy for their next journey. We also say goodbye to our 8-11 graders who will be moving on to other schools with the closure of the high school grades. We’ll be watching their growth from afar, but we know they will continue the success they started here at Aquin.
As we turn our focus towards the next chapter for Aquin, we know we will continue to offer a great Catholic education in Freeport for students in grades PK-8! The plan for grades 7 & 8 has changed slightly and will be taught in a 3-block model (shown in the diagram) by three part time teachers. We believe this will be the best arrangement for the students to get the curriculum needed and the movement from teacher to teacher in preparation for high school. It also allows each teacher to focus on the subject area more closely and we believe it will ensure greater success for both students and teachers.
I’m also happy to report many of our dedicated teachers will be returning with the launch of the Aquin Catholic Academy in the fall of 2024! These teachers will be the anchors for the transition to our new model and bring their experience and expertise with them. Teacher contracts are being prepared this week and teachers will receive them as soon as they’re completed.
Enrollment for the 2024 school year is still being accepted. The class numbers as of today are in the chart for you to see. These numbers have plenty of room for additional students, so if you have not decided yet or if you know someone that may be interested, please let us know! There will be loads of personalized learning and attention!
Going forward, I promise that I’ll continue to update you each week throughout the summer on the progress we’re making towards our new model, our building updates and where enrollment stands. Some weeks it may seem like not much is happening, but I will communicate with you either way. If you ever have a question, please don't hesitate to ask! I’m always available by email, or by phone when I’m in the office.
There will be plenty of new experiences and memories to come! But for now, we all need our summer to rest up, relax and learn the new things needed to start the 2024-2025 school year!
Have a great summer!

Graduation
Class of 2024 - The 98th Graduating Class
The Class of 2024 graduated on May 17th in the Gym. We were able to celebrate this class with having a teacher announce each individual student and their accomplishments. Overall, the class was offered over $2.6 million dollars in scholarships and 5 students received full ride scholarships! We are so proud of the Class of 2024 and the other high school students that will be moving on to other schools next year. We can't wait to see how you grow!
Retirement
Congratulations to Bill & Mary Pospischil on their Retirement from Aquin! Mr. Pospischil has dedicated 45 years and Mrs. Pospischil has dedicated 41 years to Aquin. They will be celebrating with a party on Friday, June 14, 2024, Cimino's @ 6pm. All are welcome! (Photo from the staff retirement party)
Last Day
Thank you to the Aquin High School Student Board, the PTO and the Extravaganza for their help making the last day(s) of school fun! We had to take a "do-over" for the last day plan, but it worked out on Saturday to have the bouncy houses, and the food trucks. Thank you also to Christensen Home Town Realtors for donating the ice cream truck to our special day! It was a nice way to end the school year.
