Mrs. Bearden's Message: April 15, 2024
Dear Eagle Canyon Families,
Penny Wars and a Mochinut Restaurant Night made for a fun week last week. I can't wait to hear which grade level is victorious and will get to spend an afternoon at the park. Thank you for everyone's support!
TESTING UPDATES
Beginning April 15, it will be necessary for your 3rd - 6th grade child to be at school every day. We are CAASPP testing students in grades 3-6 for the next two weeks. Students arriving after 8:10 during testing must sit in the office and wait for the testing session to end. If they miss a day during testing, they must test with Mrs. Jenkins or me to make up the test.
To ensure your child is ready to do their best, follow these suggestions at home:
- Get plenty of rest - go to bed early
- Arrive to school on time
- Eat a healthy breakfast with protein
- Maintain a positive, stress-free attitude in the morning by prepping for the morning the night before
Discuss the following testing strategies with your child:
- For the ELA, read every passage thoroughly using the highlighting tool to highlight important information.
- Read the questions carefully and look for text evidence to help determine the answer.
- If multiple-choice, use the strikeout tool to dismiss answers they know are incorrect.
- If able, read the questions before the passage so they have prior knowledge when reading the passages. This helps to know which information in the text is essential.
- For math, use scratch paper to work out the problems. It is easy to make simple mistakes when solving problems mentally.
- Be sure to answer all parts of the question.
- Do not spend too much time on a question. If they cannot figure out the answer, tell them to flag it, move on, and return to it before the end of the test session.
- Most importantly, DO YOUR BEST! Our students have worked hard all year. This is their opportunity to show everyone how much they have learned.
If you would like to see sample questions or would like your child to practice at home, you can access the link below to the CAASPP Practice Tests.

- ALL tardies will count against the award unless accompanied by a Doctor or Dentist note received within five days.
- Early Dismissals only count towards this award when a medical note from a Doctor or Dentist has been received within five business days of the appointment.
Thank you for your continued support,

Attendance Information
Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow
Attendance in school leads to better performance for children when they are adults. As such, CVUSD has a new attendance challenge for the 2023-24 school year. They are challenging schools to attain a 96.5% attendance rate. The school with the highest attendance rate in each feeder group will be awarded a massive trophy at the end of the trimester and earn a school-wide pizza party at the end of the year. Let's work together to achieve the trophy and pizza! Wouldn't it be great to end the year with the trophy?
School starts every day at 7:50 a.m. To ensure our students make it to class on time, we offer breakfast and supervision beginning at 7:20 a.m. Between 7:15 and 7:40, traffic is very light.
Please make illness the only reason for an absence. When your child misses school, they miss out on necessary instruction, and it takes a while for them to get caught up. Over the last two weeks, we decreased our overall attendance rate to 95.51%. We did meet the 96.5% goal one time in the last two weeks.
Let's work together to make attendance a priority!
"DONUT" BE LATE
Starting this week, the stars of the school with impeccable attendance and zero fashionably late entrances will bask in the glory of donut holes courtesy of the Eagle Canyon PTA! Brace yourselves, as two mystery days each week will be the golden ticket for this sugary delight.
Will your class snag this tasty treat?
BEAT THE BELL
Students will be entered into a drawing for one of five Yogurtland gift certificates each week for the following:
- Attend school every day
- Arrive to their classrooms by 7:50 a.m.
- Stay at school all day
We are committed to improving Eagle Canyon's attendance. We appreciate your support!

BOX TOP STANDINGS
A popular fundraising opportunity all families can support is Box Tops. Download the Box Top app on your phone. You must scan your receipts on the Box Top app within 14 days of purchasing. The app will let you know if any purchased items qualify to earn 10 cents per product. If there are no items, you will still have an opportunity to enter the sweepstakes to win 500 bonus Box Tops. Every receipt has the potential to earn our school money.
As of today, our school has earned $69.80 this year. Our goal is to reach $1,000.00. Please return the coupons to the school office if you also get them. New this year, the PTA plans to host grade-level competitions. Be sure to select the grade level that you want to support. Thank you in advance for your support!
