Roberts Elementary School
Week of September 16-20
Message from the Principal 🍎
WE HAVE A WINNER...
Last fall, the Roberts School began a school-wide Mascot project. During student's weekly art classes, they learned about logos, examined samples, color design and lettering. In the spring, a committee of students met over the course of a few weeks to discuss each of the designs and how it relates to our core values.
During the first few weeks of school, Ms. Holzapfel created a slide show of the 10 finalists and revisited each of the designs. The slide show was also played during each of the lunches to engage students in conversations regarding their selections.
On Friday, September 20, during morning meeting, each students received a ballot to cast their vote for the first ever Roberts School Mascot. After counting every single vote, the mascot with the greatest number of votes was the Roberts School RAMS! We will be working with an artist who will take the student design and create an electronic version so that we can begin designing some new Roberts School Swag for our school community!
National Hispanic Heritage Month
During morning announcements, students have the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive history of the American Latino community. Here is this week's fact:
Sonia Sotomayor is the first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice. She is originally from the Bronx in New York. She was sworn in as the Supreme Court justice in 2009.

FALL INTO GREAT ATTENDANCE
Please keep in mind there is one official way to call in an absence:
(781) 393-2155 then press 1
If you call the absence in this way, we will input this and you can avoid receiving the messages from the school district.
This time of the year can be busy and schedules and routines often change as a result. It is best to try to minimize changes for children, and this also means to keep attendance in school consistent. If dismissal routines are changing for any reason, please alert the classroom teacher.
Our adjustment counselors, Ms. Susan Labelle (slabelle@medford.k12.ma.us) and Ms. Catherine Gamache (cgamache@medford.k12.ma.us) are available to answer any questions or concerns you may have regarding your child's attendance.
